storage hd

Ive just stuck in an old 40gb ide hard drive from my old computer into my new one, and now ive noticed that everything has slowed down, such as the bootup into windows, and it sounds as if stuff is always being loaded from it or saved to it,

i have my samsung spinpoint 200gb (sata2) which is partitioned into c: and d:, c: for windows and d: for storage, but just incase somthing happened to the spinpoint i also wanted to have all the data on d: also copied to this to this old 40gb hd,

i have the samsung in sata port 1, and the 40gb in an ide port, master being to my disk drive and the slave being linked to the 40gb hd,

all thats on the 40gb is music files and basicly just storage files, nothing to do with windows or anything that would need to be loaded at startup,

Did it slow down bad compared to before installing it? It sounds like windows is trying to access it during boot even tho nothing is on it. I can't remember the fix for this however. I think it's the BIOS boot order if I remember right.
Meh!
