WTF is wrong with the CD drive of this laptop?!

Gateway 2000 SOLO 2100 laptop has the two front spaces...one for battery and one for either another battery, Floppy drive or a CD drive. when i put the CD drive in it doesnt completly go in. i dont know whats wrong or how to fix it so i'm just gonna screw around with it....i've got an identical laptop that is missing the hard drive and the monitor doesnt work so i might mess around with changing different parts... any help anyways?

Actually shroomer i took one of those giant 'F' shaped clamp thingys and actually got it in pretty far but i just took it a little bit apart now and i can see why! there is a little sheet of plastic on the top of the bottom part of the laptop that should go over the wall thingy but i guess when this other guy took it apart at a computer store when i tried to see if they could fix it (for something else) and it folded down over the connecter thing....

in order for most laptops to work with a PS/2 mouse you need to plug in the mouse when the laptop is off and some laptops need to have the PS/2 mouse turned on in the bios before you boot. usually there is an option to keep both the touchpad/pointing stick active as well as the ps/2 port..
