9800pro overheating? (screenshot included)

I think my video card is overheating but just want some confirmation on that if I can. It runs all the games just fine on it's stock settings so I haven't bothered to overclock it. However after playing AOEIII for a while the screen just gets trashed and I can't see anything.

I'm guessing it's an overheating problem because I've heard that 9800's tend to get pretty hot. Also when I touch the HSF on the card I can't hold my finger on it or it would probably literally burn it. Also should I be more concerned about the GPU or the RAM on the card getting too hot?

sometimes I can play through out the game just fine and other times my screen gets trashed before I can finish the game. But once I reboot my system the screen is back to normal (I'm assuming the reboot is sufficient time for it to cool off enough to function normally again). Anyways take a look at the screenshot and let me know what you think. Oh and I don't think I have any way to see what the GPU temperatures are on the card, but if you know something that would give me the GPU temps let me know.

I can play BF2 without any problems at all, the only game it does this on is AOEIII.

You can download Everest HERE,this will show your idle temps. To view the temps in game Ati Tray Tools has an OSD you can use,it also has a fan speed adjustment that you can set depending on the temp, you can get that HERE.

I still don't see any temperatures for my video card, it may just not have a sensor on the GPU I suppose.

I did take my card out and examine it and found that it had dust piled all around the fan effectively blocking the air flow for the heat sink. I cleaned it out and ran it the rest of the night without any problems, it still gets warm but I dont' have to pull my hand away immediately to prevent getting burned so that's certainly a good sign.

Clean the dust out of it. In the summer, I got some artifacting issues on BF2, where the card was painting big patches of green and blue on everything, and not drawing textures properly. I just cleaned out the dust, the temp dropped about 10 degrees, and all was well . Could have been because it was a very warm day though.
