X1800XL vs X1800XT
Basically it looks as though they are identical cards except the XT is 512mb vs the XL which is only 256mb. I don't think that memory is a huge issue since most games don't even use the 256mb's yet. The XL comes in at 500mhz core/500mhz memory as well, while the XT hits 625mhz core/750mhz memory. This will definately make a difference but here is my main question... Would I be better of buying an XL and OCing it up to(or hopefully beyond) the XT speeds or spending nearly 2x the money to get the XT. The other question is, would the XT realistically give any more headroom for OCing than the XL would? http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards....=327&card2=326 Here is a side by side comparison of the two cards that show the XL at roughly $350 vs the XT at roughly $550. |

Get the XL, it's the better deal.

Doesn't the XT outperform the XL by a considerable margin though?

Only thing I am seeing thuogh, the XT's are a bit more "binned" and even after using the **** soft-vmods the XL's don't catch the XT's. But hard-vmods may help.

XL can easily catch up to XT after a few simple software tweaks

roughly 650, but im sure the XL might drop down to 300 and x1800XT to 500
EDIT: the x1800XT is already like a 450 maybe itll drop to 420? |

You read the wrong currency mate. X1800XT is £350 average, was £480 when it first came out. I'm British

7800GT is the better deal, although you won't get fan control with them and at stock they're not the quietest cards.
The core on the X1800XLs will do X1800XT speeds, but the mem is probably not going to get up to 750MHz, even with volt modding and the 256MB will be a detriment in some games. I went X1800XL, because the R580 and G71 should have a bigger impact on the prices of the highest end cards than the X1800XL or 7800GT and there aren't any games I play right now that do not perform well with either card. I'll probably upgrade once the new cards are released. |

Actually I am partial to ATI. I've tried Nvidia several times and every time I have done so I regretted it(actually slowed my computer down). So I don't intend to buy an Nvidia again so long as their is an equivilent ATI available.
It will likely be a few weeks before I buy one so the X1900XTX will probably be out by the time I buy my video card so any price drops shoudl already have occured. I thought about the X1900XTX but your looking at a $650 price tag instead of a $350(XL) or $500(XT), that's still a pretty big jump up even from the XT price(and should be an even larger jump after the XTX is released). I have a hard time paying $650 for a video card that I know will be outdated in a year or so and will then be selling for half the price. It's not quite so bad with a $350 card. However if there's a significant performance jump between the two then it might be worth the investment. From my research it looks like the cores should be OCing at about the same rate, but that the memory in the XT's will OC much higher(800mhz+ for XT, 700mhz+ for XL). But other than that they appear to be indentical in what they offer. It seems like a minor difference in performance if you intend to OC the card(which I do). I'd love to pick up the X1900XT but I just really have a hard time justifying the cost. |

I know, **** thing went down $20 after I bought it. I don't know if after they introduce the x1900 series, the x1800xt prices will drop even more. |

Ya I'm thinking I'll probably get the X1800XL and just OC the hell out of it
. The early XL's seem to have some voltage issues but the newer ones are OCing much better.

What sort of memory do the XLs use, and how high does it generally go? I want to get close to an XT, not necessarily XT speeds, but somewhere close. The Core should be easy to get up to 625, it's just the memory I'm bothered about.
