noob needs help installing sound drivers/video drivers in gentoo/kde
I'm running gentoo 64bit with KDE....I installed the ATI drivers, but it says that i need to edit xorg.conf All that I have is xorg.conf.example, but when i put in the proper values, save it and rename it xorg.conf, it still doesn't work (most importantly my refresh rate is wrong, and i have no other options in KDE, so i set a value of 50-100 in xorg.conf) And I haven't even attempted to install sound drivers, any hints would be appreciated. |

running "/opt/ati/bin/fglrxconfig" to configure xorg.conf will be the easiest way.
You'll need to find what chipset your motherboard, or what sound card you have. Post that information back here & it shouldn't be too difficult to get sound drivers working. |

you may get better help from the gentoo forums
http://forums.gentoo.org gentoo isn't for the faint of heart...you will spend hours upon hours googling... edit: you could try reemerging kde now that you've got the alsa flag set. |
