Ahh sweet man let us know how it goes

Im sitting back to see what happens with the Conroe XE and what motherboards will be available and also to see if the XE is price vs performance.

Then u will have some competition on ur hands. Finally!!!

This is a nice look into Q4 this year when Intel will release the Core E6800 - 2.93GHz. If Intel can improve IPC by 20% over Yonah, then add in the fact it will get a nice feature filled desktop board, AMD is going to need some serious clocks speeds to hold their ground. Then go a step further and speculate about a 3.3GHz EE on a 1333MHz FSB, and you are looking at one powerful CPU.

the asus board uses a proprietary mount it seems....i would guess it comes with its own cooler. the aopen and gigabyte boards seem to use the socket 478 retention bracket

I have performed AMD blasphemy, I want one.... and not to shabby of a price either, how do they stack up to a P4extreme dual core? If they are about the same I will definately go where the performance is. I love AMD but it will be a year or so before the catch up or take the lead again, but I wont cry to much over it.

Yeah, I was gonna say. I was scratching my head because I didn't see a lick about it at XS that it was available in the US.

no you need a special 479 board - even those designed for the dothans won't do because the pins' locations are different.
2006 is intel's year of come-back, finally. I bought my intel 2 yrs ago when intel was about par with amd, since then amd made it's big milestone - and I skipped it totally. My next upgrade will probably be intel again ... looks like I am (not that I intended to) true to intel

Any price Ideas yet? I may build an opty 165 and just build another system with the conroe later. I would assume they are faster than the opty after OCs and all but it is well known that these opterons are the Sh*t. I would also just like to have one for F@H when the optimization for AMD is completed. Would F@H be faster if there was a SSE3 patch?

Agreed, but consider this: The yonah is scaling to that performance on air, this FX-60 requires ungodly expensive cooling that in all reality isn't practical. that yonah, if tuned correctly, or even put on water, would be, however.

I'll wait until Yonah has 64 bit, and then I'll consider a core duo notebook or maybe even a desktop... but I have to admit Intel's "we'll buy out the world" attitude isn't exactly enticing. That skype BS offends me, to be honest. And finally... my Opteron 165 is probably more responsive than both those chips at only 2.5 on air... because mine runs a custom 64 bit linux compiled for SSE, SSE2, SSE3, 3DNow, and all the rest of those neat lil' instructions. My system tears through anything I throw at it... I play quake 4 at Ultra... with a stock clocked video card. :\

Go get them Dynasty, i hope your frend finds that board for you. But that Aopen can get better with future bios upgrade. Hope that Asus will rock with Vmods, if you can find one. Looking forward to results on your cascacde or DI

How do these P4 preslar DC Cpus comare to these other two? I would like to get an Idea, I am really a nOOb to Intel as its been so long since I have trusted them, and it seems as they may be getting thier act together. If they do though we can expect to see massive CPU power in the next two years from both AMD and Intel, look at the stir AMD roused with the X-2 and massive HTTs on a 9cpo, I actually thought Intel was done for after that, but they are seeming to redeem themselves Hear we go, how does an Intel p4 DC compare to the Opteron 165 of the same price? this would be a good way to get a comparison, as I know my opty 165s now.

Yeah, I read through that before making my decision on what laptop to get. Pretty odd.

I'd rather compare AMD's next-gen stuff to Intel's next-gen stuff. Wow.... Yonah can beat an A64? How....... expected.
