PCI-E Slots??

ok i have been trying to find the cause of my 10k loss on aquamark3.

i have just gained 3k by tighting my ram and stuff but im still only on 88k

only things i can think of are:

Chipping the chipset and moveing the card from the top PCI-E slot to the second PCI-E slot

would Changing the slots lower performance? for example one slot is 16x and other is 8x??

im stumped!

Specs
AMD Opteron 146 @ 2.9
OCZ PC4800 @ 290 - 3-4-4-6
DFI Lanparty NF4 SLI-D
Nvidia 7800GT Extream Edition @ 510/1220
Tagan 480W 2Force.

what happens if you move it back? and there should be somewhere (yea, not very specific, sorry) in the bios where it tells you what they're running at.

and yes, i realize that you probably moved it for a reason (the watercooling setup?)... but it's really the only surefire way, unless somone else can confirm it.

yeah, there is a very, vey big problem with what you did (assuming it's not running in SLi mode in the BIOS). When it's in single card mode, it runs the top slot at 16x, and the bottom slot at 2x (while modern cards don't even come close to saturating 8x, they DEFENITLY need more bandwidth then 2x). When it's in SLi, it runs both at 8x. So either move it back to the top slot, or if that's not possible, then turn on SLi mode as it will make the bottom slot run at 8x, which is plenety for any modern graphics card.

yeah, since you won't see any performance loss running 8x over 16x.

Yeah, The expert is an absolutly lovely board. If oyu do get it though, make sure you update it to OCZ Tommy's Expert BIOS on DFI street.... I have a link to it somewhere, but I can't find it at the moment.... makes OCing the RAM a whole lot better.
