Smoked My ALX While folding

Yup Was folding and smelled smoke, computer shut down and there was a glowing hole in the middle of the motherboard, could see tiny flames and the Mobo was still FOLDING !!!!!1 Then it just upped and died. Shouldn't have died, I had not overclocked it, although it was ripe for the picking.
Both Video cards were toasted also, but It is under warantee and they put a new A8N32 SLI Deluxe, and 2 brand new 7800gtx 512's in it. I'm going to fold the living daylights out of it when I get it back.
Tried to swap my FX 57 for a FX-60, or FX62 but they wanted $600 more and that is a little too much, since I only have $14 til the end of the month lol
I am stuck folding on a celery 700 thing with an Intel warning label on it, It works but I think it gets only one point per three days, slllllooooooowwww. But any folding is good.
Managed to put Folding@home in a couple of more computers, so I just might break the 500 mark, Raise my standing
This folding is really exciting, blow up my stuff for a good cause.

Learned a lot because of this, there are right and wrong ways to put Folding@home in a computer. Read all the stuff about Console instead of GUI install, always took the easyway. But I can see how much better the console works. Just took me back to my DOS 3.1 days. Taht came back fast. Now I think I will put Linux in my computers, Ain't ascared of no keyboard anymore, lol
And for all my oldtimer out there WYSIWYG LOL

pics or BS...

not trying to be rude but having flames coming out and the rig still running is a little far fetched, I've only had 1 motherboard actually go up in flames and it was a mosfet that exploded and burned though the mobo and melted a huge pile of goop on the case and the computer was most def. not running.

My celeron processor caught fire about 3 weeks ago... Wasnt folding as i knew nothing of this forum at the time really but mine went up in flames and smoke! lol...

Completely standard Celeron 2.8 i think, still not got into clocking as im finding it, even with the guides very confusing as it doesnt even relate to anything i see in my advanced bios menu. lol...

I didnt actually think to get pics, more sheet my pc is on fire and the smoke alarm is going off!!!

Surely youd actually have to have your camera in your hand to capture it?? lol.

i've seen a motherboard smoke..and it was still running.

i was stupid and put the board on top of the anti-static bag thinking it would be a good insulator..but instead it completed a circuit under the mosfets and caused a short when it melted.

after that the mosfets were fiery hot..then one started smoking. that's when i pulled the plug..but it was running fine while smoking.

I've seen computer parts let out the 'magic smoke' before, but I have NEVER seen nor ever heard a credible report of an open flame

worst i've done is pulled out a pci card while the computer was still on....it was kinda cool looking though...nice blue arc in a dark room

first thing i thought was 'oh ****...' the computer instantly shut off and it took 2-3 tries to get it to come back on...but it AND the pci card work fine to this day

bad mobo

apparently there was a bad via on the board, ferrule just too near the ground and 3.3v plane and when overclocking( No sir I don't overclock this computer) thermal expansion was enough for the ferrule to short the two layers together. Voila I squared R heating. This has happened to more than a few of the A8n32 Sli Deluxes but ASUS isn't confirming or denying anything.(heard it from a Tech at ASUS). Still I am glad it is under warantee so I can get back to folding. Was approaching the 500 mark but now I'm dropping because a celeron 700 can't fold as fast as a fx57, go figure
If I had a little power supply it wouldn't have caught fire, but I have a 800 'watter and little shorts of 10 or 20 amps on the 3.3V rail don't mean a thing to it.
