OCZ 520W Powerstream over OCZ 700W GameXStream

I have the OCZ 520W Powerstream and will be upgrading to a conroe system. Come fall I'll be upgrading to an sli/crossfire system when g80 and r600 come out. Will I be ok sticking with the 520W with a future sli/cf rig or would selling the powerstream while its relatively new and getting the 700W be worth my while?

EDIT: forgot to go mention I may go Quad SLI if there's good driver support for it by then.

the 520W is plenty sufficient for now and will be for a while I reckon. I love mine anyway

Can a PS 520w power a quad SLI, SLI, or CrossFire setup? Just seems like the PSU would be sorely taxed at that point. Johnny knows a hell of alot more than I do though, so i'll go with him.

I doubt a 520w psu can support four gfx cards... let alone two.

Just to be on the safe side, upgrade to the 700w gamexstream

For the price, go for the 700W, its only 20 bucks more according to newegg and much more power. If going quad SLI, you might wanna think about a dedicated GPU power supply. Seems like with the current requirement of new cards, even 1kW PSU's might not be able to handle a quad. My card (bfg 7800GT) needs 26A of current. Using 4 of my cards demands 104A and thats alot of juice. More power is never a bad thing.

Id go for the GXS 700w if I were you. I went for it even though my SeaSonic 400w could handle my current setup, mainly for future upgrades and especially since it was $140.......with new tech using less power, Im hoping this will be the last PSU I ever need

The card itself only pulls maybe 5-6 amps if Im not mistaken, maybe even less actually, 26amps is the recommended +12v rating for your whole system.......

Since the 7950x2 uses 2 mobile 7900s, they dont use as much power as you would think and the requirements for running Quad SLI are probably about the same as running 2x 7900GTXs in SLI

my powerstream 520W gave up on me when I tried to run dual 7900GTs in SLI and overclock at the same time.

My beloved OCZ PowerStream 520's can NOT power quad-SLI or highend Crossfire,
especially with dual core CPU's & extreme OC'ing!

If you are going there, then go to the OCZ 700W.

Well that settles it. I officially have that issue now that I'm OCing my 7900's to the sky.

I'll stop trolling this section now. Thanks.

If going OC'ed qual SLI/Crossfire, the PC P&C 1KW Server Model (not a graphics model) will be the best.

I'll keep that in mind. Unfortunately my wallet is ultimately driving my purchase.

Really? I just went over this with someone, turns out that dual OCed 7900GTs was giving him power problems, with severe performance issues and the telltale clicking noise from the hard drive.

Dave that's not the thread starter :P don't think he's going quad SLI but we established he was having PSU problems and I told him to look on this board.

Well I was the thread started and that's exactly what I did. 1KW baby!Although for now I might just stick with the single 7950gx2 and see if can give me what I want while gaming until the dx10 cards are out. However seeing as these dx10 cards wont be out any time soon I might just have to get another to tie me over in the meantime

You have the best possible & shouldn't have to upgrade for at lest another few weeks! er... years.

The 520 will be barely enough for SLI but i doubt it can handle Quad. I'd up grade to the 700. Should get ya though a few years.
