Folding causing problems

I recently installed a folding@home client and joined a team (another computer forum). However, when I run it, it puts my CPU at 100% full load, and if I try to do something else that's slightly cpu-intensive (play a game, watch a movie, etc.) my computer just freezes. It shouldn't be the case as I have an Athlon 64 3500+ @ 2.7 ghz, so it shouldn't be that. (it can multitask pretty well, I'm defragmenting, doing a virus scan, listening to music, and browsing the web right now). Should I just use a different client?

I would set the client to run at 75% or set it to low.

what do you have the core priority set at? It should be set to low so that it doesn't use priority for resouces. It's all set up at the initial setup steps.

Temps are fine; It's idling (while it's folding) at ~45-48 degrees celcius. Thanks for the suggestions guys! I'll try those once can get back on my computer.

I dont mean to be a wise guy Buuuut if youre rig is folding it will never be at and idle If its folding its using whatever cycles the cpu isnt on anything else, so basically its running at 99% or so. 48c is a bit high already.

That's just what I needed to know. I'll reinstall it today and reconfigure everything now that I know what everything does.

48C isn't really that high. My intel 651 runs at 52-54C load while its folding, and thats a good temp. Anything under 60 is fine.

An OC that stays under 50 is good. Especially if you are running stock air cooling. You may not want to push it any higher tho untill you get better cooling.

In my computer room during the past few days (110 w/ heat index) here outside of DC, my Pentium D 940 has been running at 48-50C full load (2 instances folding). During the nights when the room is around 69 degree's, the cpu is around 44C at full load.
