FPS getting cut in half
Card Im using, 7300gs (I know its crap) and game I play is World of Warcraft. Now, I dont run the game near to max settings but thats not the problem. Problem is my game could be running fine at 30fps but then out of nowhere, for no reason at all (things on the screen dnot change, still looking at the same stuff) my fps drops down to 15 or less and the game runs very bad. But then after a while it runs smooth back at 30fps. After a while same thing. Anyone know why this is happening? |

It can also possibly be your video card overheating or throttling. |

Its an HP:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ dual core 2GB DDR400 ram 250GB Hard drive GeForce 7300gs I dont seem to have any other problems. About a program being scheduled, Im not sure on that, could be. I have avast! anti virus so maybe that is running constantly or something. And I cant seem to remember where to see my video cards temp since they changed the interface for nvidia. |

with a dual core i couldn't imagine it being any background programs.
check video card temperatures, the card could be thermal throttling. also, do you have the AMD dual core patch installed? you might try changing affinity in task manager on WoW.exe to see if that helps too. |

Hmm no I dont have that patch installed.
I changed the affinity so only CPU 0 works the game. Let me check that patch. Can you explain how do I check my video cards temp? Im assuming this is the patch you where talking about? AMD Dual-Core Optimizer - The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer can help improve some PC gaming video performance by compensating for those applications that bypass the Windows API for timing by directly using the RDTSC (Read Time Stamp Counter) instruction. Applications that rely on RDTSC do not benefit from the logic in the operating system to properly account for the affect of power management mechanisms on the rate at which a processor core's Time Stamp Counter (TSC) is incremented. The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer helps to correct the resulting video performance effects or other incorrect timing effects that these applications may experience on dual-core processor systems, by periodically adjusting the core time-stamp-counters, so that they are synchronized. Additional Comment: Ok I tried all these suggestions but nothing seems to have any effect. I still dont know how to check the cards temperature and if it where to be getting overheated, how to fix it? Last edited by Deathsight : 08-18-2006 at 09:52 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

i would imagine that the 7300GS doesn't have a temp sensor to read from the drivers.
so i guess the next best thing would be to open up your case and have a floor fan blowing fresh air into it or something like that, and play WoW and see if it still occurs. and yes, that is the correct patch |

Hello
Everest should be able to tell you your video card temps. |

If the video card doesn't have a temp sensor which the bios can read, nothing will tell you the temp, except of course, an external probe.
