Thumbs up Hi Anyone used a Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe with Phase Change Cooling Yet?

Hi I was wanting to know please if anyone has used an Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe Wireless version Motherboard with a phase change cooler? And what your thoughts about it were any problems how did it go?etc. Also Does this motherboard have any kind of thermal cuttoff, protection etc,ie does it read the cpu,s temp and if said cpu say a 4200x2am2 goes over a certain temperature will the motherboard switch off the PC.Do the AMD socket AM2 cpu,s have any thermal protection ie if they go up to a certain high temp the tell motherboard bios to turn the PC off also do the AM2,s CPU,s have any kind of termal throttling. Thanks for any help.Rich

Hmmmm. Not sure what you mean by a phase-change cooler. Are you talking about something like the Prometeia? If so, I can't help you on that (I can't imagine what problems you would have, its a CPU cooler, the M2N32 SLI has a CPU that needs cooling, I would think the biggest issue would be compatibility with your case. However, I do note the board is passively cooled with a heatpipe system and needs to be in a vertical alignment with the memory slots up and you need to make sure there is adequate air flow through the radiators for the heatpipe system) but I can comment on the rest.

Not sure if the board itself has a cutoff, I haven't found anything in the support literature regarding such. However, the AM2 and most of the other Athlon 64s do have a temperature sensor built in (you can access it with SpeedFan or CoreTemp and NXSensor), though it does not appear this board accesses it. Also these processors do have a thermal protection circuitry so its virtually impossible to melt them down. The key word there is 'virtually'.

The board does have sensors in the socket and on the board itself for the chipsets, though I have not found out where they are physically. The board has a built in system, Q-Fan, that reads these sensors and controls the various fans accordingly. There are 7 fan headers on the board and all can be controlled. The Q-Fan system provides for separate control of the CPU fan and the rest of the headers. Personally, I prefer SpeedFan which allows access to more sensors and a much finer degree of control of each fan header. Use the latest version, 4.29.

it has thermal throttling. and when u think about phase cooling u dont think about probs with the mobo, u need to think about the cpu ur gonna use. so what are u planning to use?

it depends on the type of phase change he is going to use.

Yea, it all depends on the unit and CPU you'll be using. Certain units may or may not have issues with the spacing of components on the motherboard, and some CPU's have issues with going to certain temperatures.
