May be a stupid question, but do you have onboard sound switched on and set to HD audio in the bios?

This had happened to me before on another board where the onboard sound is on, windows detected device and driver installed but still no sound.
Make sure that the audio is not being routed to front panel otherwise you won't get any sound from any plug at the rear. Whether sound is routed to front panel is determined by a set of jumpers on mobo. |
