As high as those requirements may be, they are not bugs. People also complain about the annoying security of Vista. Albeit annoying, it's not faulty.
I'm not saying there aren't any bugs in Vista and I'm certainly not a 'fanboy' blindly supporting MS, but I would seriously like to hear about the actual bugs related to Vista that MS are directly responsible for and that are not a result of poorly coded third-party drivers.

Now, give me a head start to get on my flame suit
XP x64 has problems; thats why we use x32.
Vista itself doesn't have too many problems, but when Vista fails to run on our hardware due to driver reasons, well then why would we buy Vista? I doubt we're bashing Vista; we're just bashing the lack of Vista usability due to lack of drivers.

Didnt we go through this same bugginess with WinXP when it first came out? We'll just have to wait for SP1 to appear to hopefully cure some problems along with decent driver support.

BTW... i chose "No Plans To Upgrade"

I put "not yet but soon" as im waiting for Boot Camp to support it and try it on my Mac. Also will use it on my PC when ive built it.

There are bound to be bugs because a review i read somewhere said it was not really ready to be released but MS were under pressure to get a release before Apple release their new OS.

I bought it for my HTPC, due to the fact that xp MCE was about the worst software ever written. It crashed daily, and wouldn't change channels on occasions for no particular reason.

I'm so far very impressed with vista mce, but not so much with vista. ATM, i see no reason of upgrading my main computer to vista, there are just no benefits for me.

But the real test will come when my family starts using the Vista MCE, and if it works well for them, then i'll be happy

Same with windows 95, 98... and probably future versions of windows.
It's just that there's more people with computers and the internet so you hear more moaning now.

Is there any special mce edition in the works for Vista? Otherwise, I might go with XP MCE on a htpc and a separate Vista (premium?) on regular.

I think people just use the generic term 'buggy' when anything doesn't run as expected (even like you said when it technically isn't a bug).

However, even though not having needed driver or software support wouldn't be a bug, if you can't achieve what you need to then the end result is the same (not upgrading).

I can't believe they actually listed a couple rinky-dink games as "new features" with vista... they were really scraping the bottom of the barrel trying to give reasons for people to "upgrade"...

Vista has been a long time coming, you would have though vendors would of worked harder to get working (non-beta) drivers published before the actual vista launch, instead of scrambling around after its release. Some people are stuck in the XP boat as it is more than likely their older pieces of hardware will never have the vista drivers they need.

Additional Comment:

It's interesting to see though that 28% are running vista, while 72% are not.

Maybe a few months down the road we'll do this poll again to see how the numbers change.

I honestly have no plans to upgrade at home or at work. When Intel, who M$ supposedly solicited input from in the design of Vista, balks at making the jump from XP it kind of makes me wonder.

I am sure before long I will get upgraded at work and then I will have ample time to play around with it before I consider it for my home systems.

been using since day one of beta, and have weathered the flood of 'isn't it carp?' and 'its full of bugs, wait for SP1' comments from my peers... Now i have my gen Business64 and its running very nicely - only the vpn client from cisco is a no-go (so I RDC to my media box and use that one) - FarCry with the 64bit update is actually spanking my old vista performance

am a happy bunny and it can only get better as more drivers/application fixes are published.

Ditto. I did the exact same thing with XP. I figure if large companies and the government are avoiding vista, then I probably will to.

"Upgrade," you say...

It may come to pass that I never even use it (depends on how sensible my friends are).

Hahahaha

Windows Vista is a joke.

I'm so glad they included a compatibility tester so I can pass the tests and then have Vista install most of the way and the proceed to produce nothing but BSODs as it attempts to do its final reboot. Oh, and it made "Booting a Previous Version of Microshaft Windows" not work too... just shows a black screen and HDD activity goes dead.

Vista *will* start in safe mode, only to yield a message... "Vista setup cannot continue in safe mode. Press OK to restart your computer."

So now I get to spend 45 minutes rolling-back the Vista install so I can uninstall "sptd.sys" and try again.

**** me, why does it take so long to "upgrade" from XP to Vista? Maybe I'll try a clean install next...

What a scam.

I'm just worried about Vista... I'm testing it on my old Acer TravelMate 4500 (It's got a 1.5GHz Dothan, 512MB ram, Radeon 9700m 64mb, and a 40GB HD... I love this machine to death), so I'm installing the x86 version of Vista. Even assuming things end up going WELL on the 32 bit install, I'm worried about dealing with the 64-bit version on my deskop... I may buy another hard drive (need one anway) and disconnect the one with my data on it for the installation...

New software is *sketch*

EDIT:

Windows Vista installed fine as a clean installation. As much as I hate to admit it, I'm actually fairly impressed so far. Granted, "so far" includes installing the OS, setting up displays and network connections, and installing Firefox, but still...
  • Aero looks pretty and runs quite well given my half-RAM status (for both system and vram)
  • The included driver database actually runs all the important components on this machine (Under XP I have to install LAN, WLAN, chipset, and GPU drivers (to name a few) just to utilize the widescreen display and connect to the internet, etc
  • There seem to be a lot more power management settings than there were in XP, including (or so it seems from available settings) support for user-manipulation of speedstep (you can set "%CPU power"-- I assume this means clockspeed?)

I'm actually pretty impressed. It's completely obvious that MS is trying to pull a Mac OS X on us, but thats fine with me. I don't think its nearly as intuitive as OS X, but it's a step in the right direction. I *do* like that you can do away with the "intuitiveness" pretty quickly if you know what you're doing.

We'll see how glowing my reviews become once I move on to installing more apps and trying to play un-licensed media files... I hope Vista doesn't turn out to be the DRM monster I think it will be...

You sound surprised. Did someone just flip over your rock? All MS OS's could only legally be run on one system at a time.
