What are the friendliest audio cards ?

Hi,

I'd like to get some feedback on what the friendliest audio cards are (not sound cards) before I buy one.....Something that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I'm not starting a sound studio and am not worried about surround sound or games. Big user manuals are annoying. Don't have a lot of time. I realize some of the ease of use depends on the software.

My main interest right now is recording my old cassette tapes to disks. I want the music to sound as clean and undistorted as the tape, but naturally there will always be a tiny bit of degradation. Would be nice if I could run the old Harman/kardon deck straight in. My computer is a tad outdated, being a Pentium III running at 1.2 ghz. Memory is 512 mb, so I would like to up that. I believe the drive is a slower one, but it doesn't say. OS is Win 98se which I'd like to stick with for a while longer. This means I'll probably have to buy a good used audio card that will run in that environment.

If you have some suggestions, I would appreciate hearing from you.
Hope all your days are good ones,
Alan

This is a good choice . In your case I would run run a two channel patch cord into a analog setup. Run into stereo then buy a seperate software program for recording..That way you have more options later. The best for you I think is this..http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829121120 Software is the key here. Emu is a another very expensive choice. You will have to check where you are for more accurate prices..cheers --goood luck

Check newegg?? The m-audio is perfect for your needs.. You could get cheaper card & run analog cables in & out from deck. But i believe you would still need software to record it well...Google it ..That might yield an exact answer for you .. good luck
