ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 Not Performing Well ?? [[Drivers?]]

Hello here. I have a quick question...

I was wondering what driver I should use for my Radeon Mobilty 9600?

Lapotop setup:
P4 3.2GHz
512MB RAM
80GB HDD
ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 128Mb -- Using Omega Drivers 3.8.252 (Catalyst 6.5)

I'm having some problems here as all of the games that I have tried out (Half Life 2, Medieval 2, Knights of Honor, GTA San Andres) they lag like hell and are unplayable even at 800x600 on all low settings....
I do get 2600 marks in 3D Mark03.

Perhaps is it the driver? Any suggestions are welcome, Thank you.

you need more ram from the looks of it

i have a similar laptop

P4 3.0ghz
1280 mb ram
mobility 9600 128mb
60gb hdd

you shouldn,t be having a problem with studdering unless your playing at very high settings but you should upgrade your ram

i use the Ati Catalyst 7.7 drivers also

hey thx man, but i though that 6.5 was the last supported driver from ati??

do u have the drivers from the main website ati.com or Omega Drivers ??

Additional Comment:

well i tried installing the latest catalyst 7.8 & 7.7 from ati.com for the mobility, but i got this error:

i then went onto the laptop manufacturers site and got the drivers from there which worked fine, but theyre from 2003....... old.

Go to http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/...

They customize drivers for laptops. Can't remember if they do ATI chips, but it's worth a try..

A google is also worth a try in this case.

Yaaay!!! I've found the solution!!!!
All I needed was this little app called Mobility Modder.
Just downloaded the catalys 7.8 from ati.com, then using this little app it 'modded' the drivers so they work on mobility and now im using 7.8 with no problems watsoever!!

A MUST HAVE FOR ALL ATI MOBILITY OWNERS!! Visit their forum to find out how to do it: http://www.driverheaven.net/mobility...a-support.html

Yeah, both nVidia and ATI say they don't support laptop chipsets, but their drivers are unified, and will work with their sister chipsets in laptops. Just need to mod the .inf files a little is all...
