Network Question
I set an IP number for a network card and I threw it away without reset the IP number to auto. Now, I install another network card and want to set the same IP number but window won't let me. It said that the IP# is already assigned. Is there anyway that I can set that same IP# w/o reformating? Thank you

The IP doesn't stay with the card. Once you remove the card and put in another one you can reuse the IP, as long as it's not in use on another machine. Are you running static IP's on all your machines? Is there DHCP involved in your network? What error msg are you getting exactly?

I dont think you can have the same IP address on 2 NIC's. and Mindwarp is right, nothing is stored on the card. Only thing is the MAC address.

I know Windows f*cks up and doesn't realize that an adapter is removed and doesn't release the IP, but it's few and far between when it happens.
Of course, that doesn't include a fix. Hmm... I dont know how to get it to realese the IP |
