Any guesses? I won't be surprised to see $800-900

Come on, 8GB? OCZ isn't introducing this because gamers need it, the reason this kit exists is because memory has become cheap enough that people can actually afford 8GB kits.

Still pretty cool, though, I can't believe how cheap memory has become. When I built my system in February 2x512MB of value memory was about $90, and it seems like soon after ordering the parts memory prices just started to plummet. Within a few months I think 2GB kits were down to about the price I paid for 1GB and I was kicking myself for not waiting. Now you can get 4GB of value RAM for about the same price.

EDIT: The 2x2GB Platinum are only $150 on NewEgg, I doubt they could get away with charging $800-900 for quad kits.

Man, talk about it. At the begining of the year I spend $100 on one 1gig stick of G.Skillhz ddr500. Although ddr hasn't dropped as much, you can easily get 2gig set of ddr2 for under $50 now-a-days.

AM2 keeps looking better and better....

That just came to mind as I read the title of this thread. Anyone know what's going on with that? I was so excited when I read they were working on one.

They stopped producing it almost entirely. Lower Supply = Higher cost. That's why ancient SD RAM is like $90 for 256MB.

I'm running Vista ultimate and I barely use 4gb unless I'm goin' nuts. 8gb might just be a bit much, unless you split it with a friend.

assuming that the kit reflects a price break... look at 2x2gb kits when they came out... they were well over double the cost of 2x1gb sticks... hopefully these 8gb kits won't follow that trend...

I don't believe that the 8 gigs is necessary for anything today. I have 4 gigs of that OCZ ddr2 and when I check the usage in a utilty software, rarely are the last 2 sticks in use.
