8800GS vs 8800GTS
I am the proud owner of an older 6800GS when they first came out, after I had OCed this card It out performed almost all of the stock FPS ratings I found on single 6800GTs, will the case be the same here? Also, if so will I see a true difference between an XFX model or an EVGA model, as I hear EVGA is better but in my personal experience I have consistantly held higher OCs on XFX cars, whether it be superior design or better cooling I do not know. SOrry for the noob in me |

the GS just came out and is a kind of high end budget card where the 8800GTS 320mb you speak of has been out from the beginning.
if i were in the market for a card under $200 the 320mb GTS and GS would be on my list. its hard to say because the GS has a teeny tiny bit more mem and much higher clocks but the GTS has defiantly proven its self as one heck of a card for quite a while. the GTS has a 320mb mem interface where the GS has a 192 interface x2 for a total of 384. in games i dont really know how that stacks up performance wise... idk give the GS a whirl and see how it stacks up, on paper seems pretty good or you could always wait for the 9600 GT |

I would wait for the 9600GT. The 9600GT slaps the 8800GS around in benchmarks and performs close to an 8800GT.
Add in the fact that an 9600GT is MSRP'd at $150US, and you got a great dealcoming out. But what geoff said was true. Though both GS and old GTS320MB have 96 shaders, and are clocked the same, the GTS should consistently outperform a GS because of said memory bus. 192-bits just isn't enough to allow that GPU core to access memory quick enough. That, and as the GTS 320MB has 20 ROPS the GS has 16ROPS (if it's not scaled down from other G92s) and you have it losing on that front as well. However, a GS should overclock far past what a GTS320MB should be able to due to it's 65nm architecture. |
