That really doesn't seem all that good.
Look at this thread here, number 23
http://forums.extremeoverclocking.co...d.php?t=262369

also in attached pic

perhaps i overlooked something, as i tend to do that, but that's a dual core at the same speed and 1 8800gtx doing almost as well as this new 9800gtx.....

I hate basing performance on 3Dmark06 because it never does really add up imo. Look at this,
http://s184.photobucket.com/albums/x...06_resized.jpg
A QX9650 at 4Ghz, and an OCed 8800GTX scoring 14.5K. Im begining to think 3Dmark06 is a scam, and just estimates a score.

^^^The problem with that pic is that there is a chick with a nice low cut "V" shirt that doesn't have any boobs.....my guess is that is what is knocking the score down

I think that's because he's running vista. I know i get significantly lower scores running vista, a thousand or two less sometimes.

I run vista and score right where I should be scoring as far as I can tell.

Vista only hampers the score a little bit, around 500 max. If its lowering it more then that, something is wrong.

9800GTX 3Dmark and OC results - Not fake

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=179849

This guy has been extremely reliable and has gotten a ton of hardware before its release date, and always been correct. Everytone there believes it also.

The card is set to hit shelves March 25th AFAIK.

I think this is one of those "If it ain't broke don't fix it" releases from nvidia. Nothing too revolutionary on the high-end this time around. I'm really liking the 9600GT because it is 256-bit which is awesome, can't wait to see the mobile version.

i just thought of something that made me laugh-
does the 9800GTX release ring familiar to anything in the near past?

think the ultra release, slightly higher clocks thus yielding slightly higher oc ceiling, slightly faster memory, and slightly better stock cooler.

only difference, this time its being labeled as next gen....

Not what I had in mind when I first pictured the 9800 series of GPU's arriving. I was thinking 512-bit bus, 1GB memory, and Crysis running at minimum 30fps on Very High. Ahh well, one of lifes little dissappointments, I guess my 8800GT will be moving nowhere for another year or so.

I don't think it sounds bad at all. Was it not 2 8800's in sli doing 15-16k? Compared to this single card doing the same?

A single 8800GTS can get 15k+, so 16k is hardly ground-breaking. 3DMARK counts for nothingm in real games 8800 SLI will crucify a 9800GTX by the looks of it.

I'd rather get an 8800GTS and OC the shizz out of it than pay 100% more for a 9800GTX and get a ~20% performance increase.

Face it, the 9800GTX is a lazy "filler" card to while away the time until ATI come up with something competitive... nothing more, nothing less.

I just hope to god R700 or whatever is next is something special or the GPU market is going to look very sorry indeed in a years time.

From what i read in the other thread clock for clock and with the same voltage it performs exactly the same as a gts 512, so its essentially a slightly up'ed core voltage and clock with better pwm and thats it
