Back Onboard
I have been bringing on a few workstations over the last week and they should be producing 12~15k PPD, depending on how much real work we have to do. Too bad the Quadros can't fold. It is good to see other old timers still going strong. When I last folded seriously KillerBeagle was just a pup and jevans was learning to master his 64s. Kevincolliver was doing godly production as I recall and xomcat and DriveEuro were running strong back then as well. HotRod's production was always very strong, but 21k+! Holy Cow. I hope the weather stays cold around your house. One thing that strikes me is the fantastic totals that have been run up. When I bowed out my 800k+ total had been enough to rank #2 at one point but now I'm little more than 10% of Beagle's amazing work. 30 members over 1M! A couple of others almost there. Great work. I'll be popping in a bit to catch up. Maybe some of you can give this old timer a few tips. Keep Folding! edit I just noticed that Fem is still around. Hi Fem! Thank you and good to hear from you.
My main production will come from 4 workstations. 3 of them have dual Xeon 5160 @ 3.0 Ghz and the 4th has dual Xeon 5365 @ 3.0 Ghz. I have 2 of the 5160 machines online now and I still need to setup the 3rd. I have the SMP client running on all 4, 2 instances on the 5365 machine. The 5160 machines are doing ~2500 PPD and the 5365 machine is doing ~2*2500 PPD Other than that, I have a few desktops running the graphical client. |

I'd run 2 clients on each of the dual Xeon 5160's and 4 clients on the dual Xeon 5365. That would be maximize PPD big time..

O yeah, I don't know if you've been reading up but if you do use multiple clients on quads then don't forget about the affinity changer. http://distributed.org.ua/forum/inde...showtopic=1149

Thanks for the input.
I added a second instance to one of the dual cores and went from 1 x 2500 ppd to 2 x ~2100 ppd. I'll be out of town for a couple of weeks but I will read up on this while I am gone. |

I also quit back in 2005 and started back up about a year ago. I had 430,000 points when I quit and was getting around 2000 PPD with an A64 3200+ and NINE P4s at 2.8 to 3.4 GHz. Back then I promised to come back to folding when worthy CPUs came along and did indeed come back when Core 2 was released.
I think my U-bill for those rigs back in 2005 was about $70 a month. Now it is about $40 a month for the 5 rigs I have running now. I'm gonna start working on rig #6 and #7 soon, which will be q9550-based as soon as I can get the CPUs. I'll probably idle some of the q6600 and the e6700 during the summer months so my points will probably either stay the same or drop a little bit. So far my OCed q6600s are still under 60C so I'll keep them running until my AC can't keep up with the heat outside. Last edited by jevans64 : 04-04-2008 at 06:24 PM. |

Glad to see you back! You are still the king of completed WUs, with almost 3x anyone else... from back in the days when some projects got less than 10 points. The farm you've got started now will really boost the team's output!
Last time I looked, which was a few months ago, the affinity changer only supported 4 total cores, so it wouldn't work on an 8-core box. I modified it to handle 8 correctly, but it didn't buy anything, so I have kept to 2 instances on 8-core systems. I think the problem is that there is not enough memory bandwidth to run 4 instances simultaneously on an Intel system. |
