When will we see a price drop for the 8800 ultra?

I would really like to have one of these cards (wouldn't we all) but dang they are expensive. I was wondering if anyone here might know when we can see a price drop in them. If they would get down around $250-$300 i would probly buy 2 of em. Any idea on when this might be, or what the dollar ammount of the next price drop may be?

hmm it should drop ( i dunno drop by 50ish $ ? ) in the next 6 months imo

Also, why dont you just get 2 8800GTX's ?.As far as i know only difference between the GTX and an ultra is the clock speed of the core/memory/shader which you can increase ( overclock) yourself.

Cheapest 8800gtx @ newegg is an ASUS for 345$

Hmm sounds like a good idea. But what is the difference between a GTX and a GTS? Does the "S" in GTS stand for sonic? Seems like i heard that somewhere.

Don't ask why unless you want to join them.
I would go 2x 8800gts 512mb, the ultra has different memory than the gtx too to answer your other question

Even if you could get your hands on an Ultra. I think only Ebay sells them now. They will still beat a GTX.

EDIT: Fixed spelling.

I dont think i get your meaning. Are you saying that they quit making the ultra? Or did they just re name it to GTX? How many different models of the same card are there? 9? 10? 24? geeze

No the ultra and the GTX are very different. Yes they quit making the Ultras.

My keyboard has been messing up it was supposed to say: "They will still beat a GTX."

The performance on the Ultra is only about 5% better than the GTX, and the Ultra is discontinued. Id just get the GTX.

are you saying value for money wise ? because last i checked performance wise it was :

last i checked it was ultra > gtx > gts

& no OP gts does not stand for sonic ... no idea what it stands for sorry

So in conclusion,
Just get the 8800 GTX if you want something right now...if i was you id wait for all 9 series ( 9800gt left i think) cards to come out so that price drops on all the current 8 series cards & then buy.

Definetly get the 8800gtx if you can afford it.

As zelix was saying the S stands for supreme and the X stands for extreme.
