the reason for picking the zalman was lower profile, sunbeam is 160mm, and still good high end product. |

sunbeam looks like the best performer, and one of the cheapest, and only 155mm, will the 3-pin connector fit on the 4 pin male end on the mobo, one pin just unused?
thanks Last edited by chartiet : 07-30-2009 at 09:44 PM. |

yes, one pin is unused and it has a speed controller that mounts in one of the backpanel expansion slots. it is very quiet, even at full speed.
let us know how it goes, i gotta go 2 bed! |

Guys im absolutley stoked i got my 940 two days ago and i finally got a chance to tinker with her last nite and so far have managed 3728 stable.
Just slightly concerned about my volts though i have not seen many peaople pushing this much through a PII fo a relativly low oc (Well sub 4ghz) I updated my bios(to 1705) but now i cant set my ram to 1067, still cant have it all i suppose. You can use more volts than me to get a stable overclock. Nothing wrong with that. I also use liquid cooling, so temps are not an issue. I can't boot past 4.1ghz @ 1.6++ volts. It's just to hot at that point. Your ram is 1067 native? If so, be sure the volts and timings are manually set. Take the Ram out of auto config and manually set it to 1067. My ddr2 800 mushkin ram can be forced 1067 with ddr2800 timings with a core voltage value of 2.1-2.225volts. It's all a matter of cooling the Ram at that point as well. If I want a little more stability I loosen the timings as well. I usually run a solid 3500-3600mhz on 1.3750 v-core. That's for every day use and is a great clock speed for me. And it runs as cool as it should at stock speeds. |

Cheers Shrimp.
I was considering there may be a problem with my mobo because i have the exact same one as you , iwould like to try a board with a sb750 as i hear they are better for oc`ing phenoms but i suppose there no guarantee one of those would take me to 4ghz...... Maybe next year ddr3 board and another phenom lol.. |

dont get your hopes to close to 4GHz specialy stable enough to game or runa 24 hour stress test. i can get 3.9 but not stable and more volts just make my system crash without temp being an issue (1.55v-core at 3.9 is 53C fully loaded).

Most experienced members here consider my build to be pure luck. I honestly don't think it has anything to do with my motherboard (completely).
I definitely got a decent 940BE, for sure. It seems to require less voltage than most others to obtain a similar overclock. Sometimes one power supply can give different out puts. So one psu may actually have enough amps on it to run a lower voltage. At least that's what my experience has been on this board. Ram makes a difference as well. I've been using mushkin with total success. (except when I fry it lol). So I have never tried a different brand in this board. And I really don't think I want to either. I've never even had a problem with bios issues. Even when I bought my 4850x2, it worked great. It replaced 2 separate single 4850's. I actually removed the 3rd card recently as well to save my psu a little bit. I'll get a larger one when I think it's time. Using only 2 sticks 1 gig each may even help my over clocks. Who's to know? This system has been a blessing. I hope it never dies. (knocking on wood). Any cpu with a good stepping, I can get max clcoks with. Not one cpu that's been on this board, I couldn't persuade another 25-100mhz OC. It's all about those bios settings. If you can OC with a lower voltage, that's the way to go. Then you have less to worry about when it comes to heat. You can't OC it cause you can't cool it. That's 99% of the time. Even my 939 builds went great. On liquid I always had great clock speeds. My opteron 165 went the farthest. I got a manchester to 3200mhz on LN. 2.9ghz on liquid. For a 3800+ that's pretty darn good. And I used a cheapy psu, Asus M3A-32sli deluxe (if I remember that correctly) some corsair ram, and not very much of it. |

props out to you both mine wont boot 4ghz with 1.44vcore.
One stange though since i updated my bios .My option to manually set ram speed at 1067 is gone i can set 932 then 1232 or somthing ???? as mine is 1066 i dont want to risk the rma pushing them that far. I am doing a clean install atm when im done im pushing for 3.8-.9 death or glory baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

also im running 7, 64. would love to know some setting to get my HTPC stable at 3.9x |

6gb? did you buy a triple channel kit? might get a little more out of the oc if you drop down to two sticks, plus you'll get dual channel operation. amd cpus don't do triple channel.
