DirectX 11 OFFICIALLY announced

http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/40...X-11-Announced

During its Gamefest 2008 developer conference in Seattle, Microsoft officially announced DirectX 11, the newest version of its multimedia API package. Like its predecessor DirectX 10, it will be exclusive to Windows Vista "as well as future versions of Windows." Features include new shader technology that begins to allow developers to position GPUs as more general-purpose parallel processors, rather than being dedicated solely to graphics processing; better multi-threading capabilities; and hardware-based tesselation.
Said newly promoted Microsoft's Entertainment Business Division CTO Chris Satchell during a Gamefest keynote, "We want to break away from purely having a paradigm of pixels, vertices and shaders."

One can assume that DX11 was going to be for Windows 7

Probably not Many people still haven't upgraded to DX10 and the rest don't see a great difference between 9 & 10. So 11 wouldn't be all that.

yeah but if there's enough of a difference between 9 and 11 that would be a good reason for ppl (like me) who are still on DX9. Im just hoping Windows 7 wont be crappy, I still love XP Pro

I have a good feeling that Windows 7 is going to be great. If it gets released in 2010, I'll hold out and buy a new comp then. I'd be able to get a quad core nehalem with 8GB of ddr3 ram, 2TB hard drive, and a graphics card that puts the 4870 to shame for about $1500.

XP has never been bad for me. Loved it from day one. It's good looking and it gets the job done. No driver problems, no stability problems, and no performance issues

You can not use the difference between DX9/DX10 as an example to go from. You are dealing with APIs here. Until the API code is implemented we have absolutely no idea.
