download hwmonitor and coretemp both can be useful. looks like you have a nice oc there. here are my initial results with the 9950. booted it at 1.4v at 200 x 15 multi after seating the water block. ![]() raised the vcore to 1.475v and raised the fsb to 215 x 15, cranked up the video cards. was able to run 3dmark06. http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=8250306 was not prime stable at 216 x 15 at that voltage for more than a couple of minutes. would loose core #3 after about 3 minutes. right now im prime stable at 3080mhz at 1.475v in bios. with temps at 43c under load. |

I was going to read from where I left of... but it's too much to read with all the other threads I have to get caught up on. Needless to say my system is starting to look like a system again. The case is about buttoned up and I have taken some pics of my progress so far on it. More parts will arive in the next week and the rest about 3 weeks from now... waiting on paychecks...

Thanks... and it ain't done yet! I just put the PSU in and now I'm putting the mobo in... but it probably won't be booted for at least a week cause the 1st of the 2 GTX260's comes in a week...
Additional Comment: I don't know for sure yet... but I'm thinking that if I have my 9950, Flex2, and 2xGTX260's all cooled by those rads it should keep everything pretty close to room temp... what do you think? Last edited by cstmcomps : 09-21-2008 at 05:40 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

15x210 1.38v 1120 on my ram I still think I can take her further temps max out at 52c under load I haven't tried 3.2 with 1.475v, I am afraid of what temps might be, plus I dont think the 50 more mghz would be worth the heat. I am on air by the way. OCZ Vendetta 2 with OCZ freeze. Is there any benefit to overclocking the northbridge? I have tried adjusting the multi to overclock it a little further but not stable past 2100 Last edited by dmcnutt : 09-21-2008 at 09:09 PM. |

Nah. you just need to to stay around 1800-2000 ... anything under or over bring in instability. I also couldn't get past 2100

I wasn't able to get my nb much past about 2170... so I would say the 2100 rule is pretty accurate...
UV cold cathodes are in... uv led lights are in the res and the res is installed... fans are all installed and plugged in... cept for the ones that will be plugged into the fan controller that hasn't gotten here yet... cpu and cpu block are installed and tubes hooked up... ram is installed and I will hook up the tubes tomorrow... ran out of 3/16 tubing for the ram so I will have to go to home depot tomorrow and get some more... dvdrw and hard drives are installed and just waiting on the sata cables to get here... I'm pretty much at a stand still till the rest of the parts get here... any ideas of things I could change/add/subtract? pics are above a couple of posts ago... |

couple of pics of progress so far... no the system is not powered up... I just jump started the psu with a paper clip and attached the lights and the front fan cause it has lights so that ya'll can get an idea of how it is going to look...
I only have 2 hard drives installed at the moment... but I will have a 160GB SATAII 32MB buffer 7200RPM OS drive, a 500GB SATAII 16MB buffer 7200RPM, a 1TB SATAII 32mb buffer 7200RPM, a 250GB SATA1 8mb buffer 5400RPM hard drive I had laying around that I have a bunch of movies and music on, and I will be getting another 1TB drive and a blueray burner when I can afford them, so maybe 2 or 3 months from now I think... I have a quad sataII add-on card coming next week so that I can hook up all those drives... Last edited by cstmcomps : 09-22-2008 at 12:04 AM. |

I'm selling my laptop cause my wife says I don't need 6 computers. So when it sells I'll be down to 5 computers including my server.

not to distract anyone, but back to the question at hand.
I have a Crosshair II Formula with a 9950 BE and am wondering what the most stable settings are for achieving 3.0Ghz. Here is my system: Asus Crosshair II Formula AMD 9950BE Silverstone Decathlon 850W PSU (single 70A rail!) Mushkin XP Ascent w/ eVCI PC2-8500 1066 RAM if anyone needs additional details to help me out, just ask. I'm new to this board and to overclocking (but not to computers......I know plenty). Is it generally "safer" to overclock with the multiplier or the FSB. I want my computer to be running at at least 3.0 with the RAM @ at least 1066 in dual channel unganged. Even a screenie of someone's BIOS settings who has my mobo would be great. Oh, and I'm running a ZEROtherm Nirvana 120 cpu cooler if that helps. HOPE TO LEARN A LOT HERE!! THANKS GUYS! |

Twirlin. Thanx for posting.
Couple things to get you started. Never let your temps get over 60c. 3 ghz is easy and can be accomplished with a tiny voltage bump if any. some people have been able to do it with stock voltages. cpu speed = FSB * multi 3000 = 200 * 15 set your ram to stock volts (2.0 according to newegg) set cpu volt to 1.3 and test for stability. generally running 3dmark06 all the way through without a blue screen is a good place to start. But it is not by all mean definitive. others here will tell you how to test for 24/7 stability. If you blue screen then up your cpu voltage on increment. and try again. More voltage to the processor brings in more heat. watch those temps especially if you plan on going past 3 ghz. FSB OC will OC your ram. looks like you can take your muskins a bit further and pump a bit more voltage if you need into them. Don't overvolt your ram beyond manufacturer specs unless you want to fry them. Additional Comment: Get yourself a copy of cpu-z (the voltage reading on cpu-z is busted) Last edited by UNIXgod : 09-23-2008 at 11:09 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

What are your current settings that got you to 3.1 stable?
I'm talking everything........FSB, mult, voltage, ram, etc....etc.. I will take them into account and start below them. I want to have my RAM @ 1066 though. |

for 3.1 I had to get push it a bit with 1.45volts
I had 3.2 with 1.525 volts Please don't just pop in these voltages. each chip is different. I also have higher binned ram. if you want to do 1066 just change multi. or if you want to do fsb. drop your ram down to 800 and it will go up with your fsb. I would go for a stable 3Ghz and then worries about the extra mhz. Please refer to the first post in this thread which outlines the limitations of our mobo. Additional Comment: for 3.0 ... 1.35v another word of advice. don't overvolt over 1.55v also there has been some debate over what voltage the phenoms can take. make sure your cooling is adequate. Additional Comment: On last thing. Crosshair 2 mobo has OC profiles. Use one for stock and one for OC. This will save you time if your system doesn't post and you need to reset CMOS. OH COOL, I'll be sure to use the OC profiles as suggested. I have all the parts laying out getting ready to put together, so I haven't peeked at the BIOS yet, but how do I find the OC profiles. I'm sure I'll find them, but it's always nice to get pointed in the right direction ahead of time.
Is it safe to assume that I can keep the FSB @ 200 and up the multi to 15x to achieve my 3.0?? And at that point, you would suggest 1.35v? What voltage is stock? |

Hey unix... my 9950 aint here yet... but looking at my system above... how high of an OC do you think I could acheive saying our mobo can push that high of volts? Would you think that 3.6Ghz would be out of the question?

According to newegg stock voltage is 1.05-1.30V
You need to bump and test. There are people who have the same chip and use stock volts. Don't just arbitrarily input voltage... Additional Comment: I don't know anymore. You have a better cooling solution than me. I imagine 3.4 would be a better expectation. btw the new bios messed up my 3.2 oc. I'm getting ready to go through my every six month "time to sell my rig" and get a new one. I want to go over 4ghz and get into water cooling. completely redo everything. just gotta find the money for the ddr3 and cooling. Last edited by UNIXgod : 09-23-2008 at 04:29 PM. I just hope I have better luck w/my 9950 than I did with my 9850... the 9850 takes 1.6 volts just to hit 2.9Ghz...
