better multithreading, dx10, superfetch, 64 bit, there's plenty of reasons to use Vista....

also better multimedia handling.

Is having the power of Win 2000 Pro and the features of Vista too much to ask?

Fixing the control panel default view back to classic. Fixing the start menu to classic if you hate the both the XP and Vista ones like me).
All of which takes a faction of the time needed for the regular format/installations of 2000 and XP. I'd rather do it once and be done with it than have to reinstall the entire OS every six months.

It's the software equivalent of keeping an Apple computer "up to date." Throw away the old and start anew. I always thought that was an advantage to PC over Macintosh, longevity. Why isn't it for operating systems?

Another tin foil hat story......

Seriously, noone forces anyone to use any OS. There were/are just as many issues with XP and it has been proven that even OS-X is easier to hack than Vista. This is not news, it is just garbage.........

Wow, a thread from a bunch of complainers.
How original!

Seriously, don't buy Vista (or pirate it) if you feel its so bad.

TinyXP Platinum 2 install on my dual-PIII, tweaked even further. 2 years, 2 mobo swaps (same chipset tho), one CPU upgrade (2x 667MHz @ 500 -> 2x700MHz, still need a mobo that will do FSB 133 and get along with my 9800 Pro), 2 RAM upgrades (512-> 768-> 1GB) and 3 video card swaps (GF2 -> Radeon 9250 -> Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB) down. Still running like in first day, and booting in 25 seconds.

However i have to admit that when i only had 2GB RAM in my C2D and used to dual-boot Vista 32 and XP 32, i used Vista several times to recover XP when it crapped out, but everytime it was due to my RAM acting up.

I don't think they should release it till it's done. I mean really done. Maybe they need the customer feedback to get it all going correctly? Just like XP, it's so glitchy and buggy and slow when it first come out. It's irritating to buy something new and have it be that way.

The amount of man-hours of testing to find the bugs that are found in the first year of an OS's life would be so huge, it would probably take an additional 10 years and the license would probably cost 5x as much as a result. Its a fact of life, time to deal with it.

Well, it DID work, but the updates it just received (apart from restarting my computer without requesting confirmation) messed it up again. Oh great. It can't remember a ****ing window size.

Edit: It does, but only if i resize/apply views/whatever to the parent window i navigated to that window from. Freakin' annoying if you'd ask me.

Did you increase the MRU cache? After doing that I haven't had any problems. If you have an inordinate amount of folders maybe you need to increase it larger than the suggested amount on the website?

I haven't had any windows updates mess it up (then again, I haven't gotten the most recent windows updates).

Yes i did increase the MRU cache, to 30000 instead of 20000 recommended. I had a lot of updates since we've just finished redecorating the house, and i just had the internet cable for my rig fixed yesterday, so it installed a bunch of stuff.

It works now, but it really annoys me that it only remembers views in parent windows.

So maybe it should be that they stay with one OS longer, so we get to wait longer before we have to suffer that again. So i take it they do rely on the customer to help out with the bugs?
