4870 More fan questions... (done fan fix)

Hai guys,

Asus 512, no OC, default cooling. Done the fan fix, it made my fan go at around 2700rpm. Isnt that still slow? What speeds are you getting when you max it. Idle temp 47-50 celsius, without case, normal conditions. Tried manual / auto settings in the profiles, tried playing with the numbers. Tried new rivatuner, tried powering fan directly from psu (went even slower than maxed setting when connected to card). PSU Fortron 500W.

Will flashing bios help? Like to set it to max everywhere in there, in the auto ramp too. I dont care about noise, i dont care about how much power it eats.

Any help appreciated

Install the 8.10 beta drivers and you can use Overdrive to set up the fan speed. 41% keeps my X2 under 80C load, and it's just hearable (stock it idled at 80C ).

Downloading those drivers, could you please check whats your fan's rpm? and if possible whats its rpm at max setting. I dont have the x2 card btw but it shouldnt be all too different when it comes to the stock fans i guess.

GPU-Z reports 4800 at 100%, but it's loud too, real loud...

I run silent fans and such and I find anything over 30% is intolerable.

I can just start to hear mine at 40%, wouldn't consider it even noisy until it's over 50%.

I just manually stuck it at 30% and boom... MUCH noisier than the rest of my system! If the fan was a smoother, less harsh noise i'm sure it would be much better.

Mine is at 60% and blends in but my rig sounds like a jet engine to begin with.

Actually, I take that back. I run my fan @ 35% and it is not that noticeable. I think it was when I was up around 50-60% that I found it completely intolerable for any length of time.

My 4850s' fans runs at 4500 rpm, and although it's audible it is certainly not that noticeable. I found it to be the best noise for the amount of cooling it gives. 41C idle for both of my cards.

Man, the 4850's fans are allot more gentle than the 4870's lol. Nice temps though.
