I was just reading your post about this....now it has its own thread.

Anyhow, yeah, that is expensive. How much is the 4870x2 on newegg? Is the performance better than regular Crossfired HD4850's?

EDIT: Also, that is the 2GB model.. (are there 1GB?) so it wouldnt be fair to compare it to the 512 version.

Prices will probably drop within a week or two. Most stuff is usually overpriced when it first comes out. Personally I'm going to wait for Nvidias rehash of the GTX-280 and apparently a dual GPU card so prices on the 4870x2 will drop. If the new Nvidia card outperforms it, I'll end up going with that.

I'm surprised nVidia hasn't jumped on this sooner, I know they like to be king ad I figured they would have fixed it by now......

the 4870x2 costs about $520

the 4850 comes in 512mb and 1 gig
the 512 4850 costs about $130 after MIRs and the gig ~$180
being as the 4850x2 has 2 gigs or ram thats why i mentioned the 1 gig model, but still its way more expensive

It is a better solution if you don't have a x48 chip set
and it is a 280GTX killer

Once they get the price in line with the 280 there will be no reason to buy an nV card as ATI will have them covered at all price points

I agree nV may have some interesting products to try and steal the crown back. Stayed tuned

Yep, its priced to go against the GTX-280, nothing more, nothing less. We are already seeing GTX-280 price drops, I wouldnt be surprised if the 4850X2 does something similar.
