ATI Overdrive is locked (there is no unlock key) help please???

First off hello. I'm writing this while i wait for my CPU to cool down because i set the voltage wrong when i bumped it up 450mhz and it shot up to 75 degrees (LOL) ive been a long time overclocker since my fist dx266 or making the one as fast as the other (this was a long time ago and i cant remember lol) then came the AMD durons and XP's now im on the dual core 4200+

basicaly today i got my 2nd HD3870x2 from ebay (this one works) BUT ATI overdrive is locked and im confused....ive had ATI cards in the past and you click the unlock button and it lets you access the overdrive features....there is no unlock button, there is no key there is just disabeled buttons and sliders....

help? - i just installed the 8.10 driver suite and catalyst control center (well whatever the latest one is from the website)

its not anything else because it all worked 20 minutes ago when my x1950xt was in my rig and all the overdrive was set to maximum!

also if i cant unlock it, whats a good program to use? ive used ATI tool before but found it a bit buggy.....

help, ideas, suggestions?

thanks

my x1950xt got 24000
my HD3870x2 gets 25000.....

i was hoping for a bit more to be honest......

cpu limited? imagining a bench that old would probably be cpu bound. use something newer.

That cpu isn't great, it will be limiting you there.

If you're running 3dmark 01 on default settings it's only going at 1024*768, which is nothing now, crank that res up!!

And iirc, you need a proper six and an eight pin power connection in the 3870X2 to enable overclocking I think.

correct, about the power cables, and would think a 4200x2 would be some restriction - the 6400 at 3.4 restricted my 2 3870s

i restarted my computer and it was there......how very confusing....i can access overdrive now.....and i do have 6 and 8 pin power cables....

but yes i do believe it is my CPU....in fact ive made a topic about it in another section, its just my luck that today, when i receive my new shiny all singing all dancing bells and whistles gfx card (well its sort of new and shiny lol) my cpu BOILS ITSLEF!!!!

it was fine yesterday....all ive done is put the new GFX card in and change the GFX drivers and now my CPU overheats all the time.... it picks today to run hotter than it should for no reason at all....bios says its a good 20 degrees colder than it says it is in windows though so i think i have some software gremlins!!!! they must've magically appeared

this is seriously uncool.....

The 3870X2 will be creating a lot more heat in the case now, you'll need some better airflow in order to keep temps down.

im quite pleased....it does seem that this card is much faster than the x1950xt
