liteon dvd drives

how do the lite-ons compare to other brands? namely sony. both are around the same price

A lot of those other companies buy lite-ons, rebadge them, and sell them as their own.

Lite-on is a good quality manufacturer. I highly recommend you buy from them.

i love my lite-on drives, i have the 32x cd burner and the 16x dvd drive, never had a problem

They are very good, indeed. Lite-On delivers top quality across the whole line of drives, so it should be sort of a sure thing going with one of them.

I can attest to Lite-on quality, at first I was a sceptic, but after buying a 40x burner and overclocking it for free to a 48x I was a sold!

You gotta be careful when flashing the hardware with a different speed because some times it won't work and then you'll have a nice paperwait.

Your right, but it is a pretty safe bet if you know how to check if your drive is a 3chipset or 5chipset design. If anyone is interested, do head over to cdreaks.com forums, there are all kinds of Lite-on owners there and the people there are very knowledgeable.
