Don't ask why unless you want to join them.
if you have a 22 inch screen you'll probably be playing at 1680x1050.. I'd wait a couple of weeks.. nvidia's got something up there sleeve.. but if your wanting something now then the 4870 1GB or 260 core 216 will do fine

Its a toss up between the GTX260 216 and the HD4870 1gb. Both are the same price, and both are within a few frames of each other in most games. Anything more than that is a waste.

+ 1 4870 1Gb or 260/216 core

To close to call

you may want to taylor your decision based on the game you play as these cards are close but in real life one or the other has an advantage pending the game

Either one will be an excellent card at that res

Do yourself a favour & stick with ''team green'' nvidia are true plug & play specialists, whereas ATI can be finnicky with random setups....

+1 for 4870 1GB

Same price but the 4870 has better IQ and handles AA better which is another +1

Its not just you.

Additional Comment:

Just picked up my 4870 1gb for $250 AR ($15). At that price point, its clearly the card to get.

After making numerous threads on numerous forums, reading a million reviews it felt like.. lol the conclusion was clear, 4870 1gb over the core 216 for 19x12 and under.

And for the record, I was the biggest bvidia fan boy on the planet. All my purchases pretty much until this pint have been evga.

But after reading everything, trying the card out (my buddy had one) I decided yup. ATI this time.

Nonsense.

I would go with the best deal between the 216 core and 4870 1gb. The 4870 1gb IMO is the better card and would be worth a difference of 10-20$.
