Good addition on the I8 software. I used that on my Dell. Great software.

I can't remember if my parents bought an extended warranty on their laptop - will it void it if I re-apply some new AS5 on the CPU, GPU and NB? Cause the darn thing decided to run super hot even tho it's running undervolted, and nothing is "loading" the computer (stays around 45C lifted on idle, fan is constantly running like my gf's laptop does while folding, on the same model with the same undervolt...)

Great Post, my HP Pavilion dv7 gets freaking hot as ****, since most of its use is confined to semi prone gaming, the bottle cap tricks wont work, gonna have to try the AS5 trick once the warranty goes bye bye. thanks for the info!!!

Finally did my laptop with ASIII (had it kicking around). It started to shutdown due to overheating again even with RMClock running (coming into summer here). Pulled it down. Cleaned the hard gunk off all the chips the cpu and video heatsinks contacted, turps and metho so its all nice and shiny, gave a nice even coat of ASIII - no thermal pads here, the heatsinks made nice contact when I reassembled. Now it idles under 50 and is sitting at 57 encoding video.

An hour ago it was idling at 80

Did you undervolt already? I would guess it is because it is unstable.

That's weird... try Orthos or OCCT (with the Linpack test) and see if it does the same thing.

OK. So I ran Orthos and it lasted longer then Prime95 but then the computer crashed again. I watched the core temp in the RightMark program and it sky rocketed. Could it be shutting off to prevent damage from heat?

Yep, quite probably.

What is the laptop? Start undervolting right away with small steps so that you don't make your laptop unstable. It should help alot with the temps

Yep, lower the voltage of the CPU, and make sure that when you hit apply that the voltage really drops. You can monitor this with CPU-Z. Then write down where you are (cause if the program crashes, it loses everything unless you reboot manually first) and test it out.

OK. Thank you for your help. One last question, when I do find the right voltage, and I restart and select both the startup options, will it keep the setting for when the computer is turned off and on?

You need to check both start up options, then make sure any settings related to "apply settings on startup" or similar are checked, apply, and reboot

Ok, so after using the RightMark program, I managed to keep the computer running around 54 to 55 C. Is this a good temp. for it?

If it's lower than it was before, then yes it is a good temp

It might also be time for a heatsink clean up, is the laptop old?

Psst, TX2/Mx2 is non conductive and is about the same as as5 with little settling needed. TX2/Mx2 > ASC eocf review-http://www.extremeoverclocking.com/r...ompound_4.html, Been running it over a year so with good results +Tx2 is dirt cheap.
