if it works, remove all the paint, then spray from the start. If not, maybe a bit of sanding on the already painted parts, clean and prime. You might not need to sand it too... but somebody else more qualified in that kind of painting will help you.where di you find that avvy anyway? I saw it in a Summum not so long ago

Nagoshi nice work
Also a good note for painting guys is a product called prepsol (wax & grease remover) if the paint is intact cut the top layer of with some sand paper. Remember to work on scratches so they cant be seen under the coat of new paint. Painting quality is all about preparation. Good luck on the up coming |

![]() And also with the case I think I'll try with sandpaper, it shouldn't be too hard to take it off. I used to take off the paint on my bicycles with the paint removal paste. I think it might be too extreme for a computer case. I'm eager right now I just ordered WC'ing on NCIX. I'll hit you up later for the Super Pi contest Lol. I don't think I have any chance. I doubt my 4200+ will go above 3.4.

Nice! Looking forward your next water components. I love NCIX, cheaper than NewEgg on some items (when you can't have free shipping on the egg
), what did you order? Also, for the case, unless you want the top-notch quality, sandpaper should be fine ![]() Keep me updated with that Super Pi contest. I never did any benchmarks on any of my rigs other than Witchdoctor's X3 : Terran Conflict addictive bench ![]() I think I need a new board for my 5000+ BE. No matter what I do, I can't get that chip to go higher than 3.45GHz. With temps I have I should be able to reach 3.5 - 3.6 rather easily, but no. Even with as much as 1.82V... more volts only results in unstability ![]() Ran a run of X3 this afternoon at 13x265 = 3445MHz, best run so far at 1920x1200 with 49.4FPS average other max was done at 3.39GHz for a 49.0FPS score. I think I can still get some out of that memory and chip for that bench... but I might need a new board before that

I ordered a MCW30 to cool my HOT northbridge, some UV blue primochill tubing and AS5 thermal compound. I chose NCIX this time cause they have 10$ gift card that gives you free shipping for entire order. Nice deal IMO.
I should try X3, I've heard of it but never experienced. 3.45GHZ is quite great for a BE. And LOL @ 1.82v that is insane. If i'm not mistaken 1.35v is stock volts right? So my plans for this week and next weeks are : Painting the case Redo my entire loop by adding GPU (with a Maze4) and NB. Try to lower Super Pi to 27s minimum :P |

Well, 3.4GHz seems to be a common goal for air cooling, and Im on water
what's why Im not happy about it I was hoping to reach at least 3.5GHz since the temps are so great... but no. And you're right, stock is 1.35V ![]() Just hop on the X3 wagon and lose your life there's a link in my sig, ya just have to download the demo (I think there's a link on the first post), set the right settings and let it run... then report the score If you're not happy with the score, then it's time to get more speed out of the CPU ![]() GL on the painting and water loop... keep me updated

I think I'll post a mod log or something in the watercooling section. I just hope I won't be too lazy to take pics...
I'll check X3 tomorrow for sure. I have to go to bed now 23h day ftl.

Well, some updates.
I almost got to boot into Windows at 3.5GHz, at 1.68V. Over 1.7V (and I don't have steps between) and it crashes higher. I guess too much is like not enough - with a different message. Im still trying to find my "best" bench speed. It seems to be around 3.45GHz. Today I am playing with it again to find it. Even tho I am using a black edition processor, I use the FSB to overclock, because it seems to reach higher speeds that way, and also because I can run my 400MHZ memory at 500MHz at 5-5-5-18 ![]() Still no idea what the 24/7 clock will be. Possibly 3.3GHz with alot of FSB applied to make my memory run faster. Right now as a quick setting I'm using 11x272, it gives me 3GHz and 498MHz on the memory. 1.4V on the CPU, 2.2V on the RAM (altho Im sure I can drop it a tad bit). AS a next mod, I butched my DVD drive painting, so I will either try this: - Convert it in a slot-load, using an old slot-load drive I have around from an old dual P2 server - Repaint it if I can't convert it Im hoping I will be able to convert it in a slot-load. I will check that old drive tonight and see if there's anything I can do with it. Hopefully yes, since those drives costs alot

Love the Cat how you goner fit it in
![]() Does the Cat pull in more viewer comments maybe i should try it, that old black and white usually in the spare bedroom can be pretty cute sometimes ![]() Sorry must be serious yeah nice rig, like the red psu with the green pipe look. CPU, AM3 720BE x3 or AM2+ 940BE, thats a toughy, i think the 720 probably OC's better, but the model number suggest the 940 is the better chip but the 940 wont run DDR3 on the new AM3 boards, of course if you can unlock the 4th core on that 720, the its missing a core problem then goes away, but you might not neccesary miss the extra core. It seems i7 on a budget goes to the 920 after talking to Boss, newbie although hes now reg mem Last edited by danthompsett : 03-14-2009 at 07:07 PM. |

Small update
Well, I think I mentioned in one of my other posts that I had painted my DVD drive black and red at some time. Well, without much success, because I was in an hurry to put it back up, and the paint, not being perfectly dry, scratched here and there. The outside didn't matter too much because, well, it was outside
but the DVD tray (that I had painted red) had alot of wear and tear on the fresh paint where some parts are touching/moving. I also had chipped some of the paint with my nail accidentally on the front bezel, so I had two nasty white marks on there. So today I cracked it open yet again (2 minutes to open that DVD drive... my first one took like 1 hour to get everything out LOL), gave the parts a really bad quick sand jbo on them using some old 180 grit I have around (just to peel some paint out so that the new primer can stick better). Then used primer, waited like 15-30 minutes for it to dry to the touch (my metal primer is dry to the touch in like 1 minute... plastic one is more stubborn, but meh, just have to wait more LOL), and made yet another quick paint job (I barely have anymore black paint ) for it.You will see in the next pictures that my red paint sucks. I'm using some Krylon H2O Latex paint that normally dries fairly fast, but for some reason that one comes out in drops... so I need to put more, and it makes a bad job. I would use my airbrush if that **** cheap paint wouldn't take hours to be dry to the touch. Picture time! 1 to 6 - the "old" paint job. Pic #2 shows a close-up of the tray cover and the eject button (see what I mean by "the red paint comes out in drops"? I used that effect. Looked cool, but I went for something else for my second job). The tray was red (it still is right now, but with something more special), the 6th pic shows the underside, pic is not clear but I originally had painted the underside black, and when I sprayed the red it did not come bright at all - it really is much darker than that. 7 and 8 - The really quick sand job I did on the parts. I took more time on the front bezel to make it look slightly better. 9 to 11 - The final paint. It comes out almost pink, but the 10th pic is the closest to the actual color. At first I painted the whole tray red, then used some cheap masking tape (again, before it was perfectly safe - DOH) to hide everything around the round "hole" where you put the disk. Sprayed black, then hurried to remove it so that the black paint wouldn't stick on the tape. The masking tape was a bad idea - some red paint had sticked to the tape... so, I let it dry for about an hour (the black paint was almost fully dry), then used one of those clear disks that comes in CD/DVD towers, placed it in the middle, and sprayed with red again. Right now it's drying on the same cardboard piece, sitting on my good old CRT and this time it's staying a good 48-72 hours drying there without assemblying it back before then ![]() It was yet another quick job, but it'll look alot better in my Antec 300 when compared to the beige bezel it had Pics to come when I will re-build the DVD drive back!Meanwhile, I was wondering if I should paint my front grill on my Antec 300. It's black and nice, but red would fit with my DVD drive along with my next color scheme (next time I refill my loop it's going to be red, along with my lighting effects). I would also (probably later) paint the top and side fan grills red instead of black so that everything can fit altogether, as well as changing the HDD and Power LED from those bright blue LEDs to some red ones. So, should I paint the front grill red, along with the side and top fan grills? |

Thanks guys
![]() Still not sure if I should paint the front grill. The black is looking so perfect on there, but red would probably fit better with the whole (coming) theme. Hoping that I don't *again* do a crap job and scrap the grill... As for the DVD drive... I'm dying to rebuild it and see how it really looks... must... resist... paint's still not fully drive... argh gotta try and "wear" down some parts in the DVD drive itself to reduce contact wear due to the moving parts, so that the paint can stay nice for a while.

Front grill painted!
I really need a new red can, this one is not as bright as I would have liked it to be. Anyway, it's red
(and it comes almost better than IRL in the pictures... **** )First is the primer shot (forgot to take a before pic) 3 others are the grill installed in the case... after a 45min dry time I figured it won't get damaged in the case, and the airflow is actually going to help to dry the grill, so why not ^^In the 2 lasts we can see a bit of the wire mess, a water tube, and my blue Thermaltake fan that is acting as an exhaust right beside my 8800GT, blowing it's hot air through the expansion slots ![]() DVD drive is going in the tower tomorrow, just to be sure, and if I have time I might cut out my side panel grill for better airflow and screw a 120mm round chrome fan grill (that might be also painted red ) so that I don't end up with a cat missing a tail

I would get some Antec tri-cool red leds, and paint the 2 other cd covers red.
Man that looks good nagoshi. Red and Black for the win! Go Dawgs!! ( it's a college football thing ) |

Im not sure for the CD covers. They are not mesh - they are a whole plastic piece with only a circle pattern on them. If I paint them red, they will be a whole solid red.
For the fans, Im not sure yet. I can't afford any fans right now, but it's not like airflow is much needed with a WC setup I could always put some "normal" (non-LED) fans in the front, as I want to put some red LEDs with my PulseVU LED controller (flashes on sound, or breathes like a Mac). That'd be cool IMO.As for the football team... For the NFL, I'm more sold to the New England's Patriots... because my high school football team had the same name and logo I'm not exactly a Football fan anyway, played it on high school and found out I wasn't the violent type

You could do the q-tip trick with filling the holes back in black, if you are that patient. ( I know I'm not lol )

I'm also not sure if I am patient enough to do that... altho my gf has some weird shaped q-tips... thanks for the tip
not sure what kind of black paint can I use for this tho... my two black cans are almost dry... I have some acrylic paint I used to paint stuff at school (as in, paintings), think that should do the trick? ![]() Additional Comment: Ha, I was sure the bay covers were one piece. BUT I WAS WRONG! The covers are made of plastic and the grill can come out, they have small clips. I used my nail to get them out. So here I am, taking the grills out of the covers, and going to paint them in a couple of minutes ![]() Maybe with a quick dremel job and some some super glue I could fix one of the grills to my DVD drive, to "stealth it" furthermore
