Exclamation ***The New Offical HDD Bench Thread***

We'll be going off of averages ONLY as I don't want some huge a** mess to try and keep track of. It will be broken down by number of drives starting with 1 and up to 5. If you have more then 5 drives you will be in the same catagory as people with 5 drives, sucks for them This really isn't a "my sh*t" is better then yours but more of a thread so people can see what performs and how well it does but let's keep it all to the default settings for the bench to make it a level playing field also keep in mind this is a bench thread so whatever you have to do to make it faster do it

UPDATED THOUGH POST 159

To See A Full Breakdown Of These Scores Check ESCAC's thread and be sure to thank him

Unless you are doing video or some other hugh continuous files, transfer rates are not the "all in all",
seek times and access times are far more important, so please track them as well.

I understand that these don't get the e-pen*s as hard, but they are far more useful 95%+ of the time.

Thank you,
Dave

Could i suggest that you add superlatives for scsi and IDE drives aswell as access time (no need for their own list just a tag at the end would be nice). I think it would be cool to see how they compare, and nobody wants to look like a fool when someone brings out a 4 scsi raid0 .

Also the full drive name would be nice, as even different releases of the same drive will have different firmware and etc. It makes a difference and will help those looking to actully compare drives. Having 5 different WD 320 drives all with different benchmarks helps nobody.

Ill be posting a few of mine in a moment, dont wait up.

I can see where you are coming from but I don't want to get all uber detailed, if someone is really looking to set their stuff up they can always read through the thread and find the post they want more info about, so for now let's just keep it at what size, how many, and what average

Also updated through post 10

Note:

Please keep it in the proper format like the following, if it's not in this format I will not post it

Dentlord - 1x300GB WD Velociraptor - Avg. 101.9 MB/Sec

That is how it should look thank you!

This is just for avg transfer rates, if someone else would like to do a thread based on access times, or even both please feel free. I don't have the time to setup and maintain a complex HDD bench thread like the last one. I had no intention of making this thread in the first place as I didn't think my other thread would be so popular

I just realized that I gave the wrong info. My drive is a 7200.11 and not a 7200.10. Sorry about that.

I changed it in my post above, but if you could change it in the original post that would be great.

And thanks for putting this all together.

This is just for avg transfer rates, if someone else would like to do a thread based on access times, or even both please feel free. I don't have the time to setup and maintain a complex HDD bench thread like the last one. I had no intention of making this thread in the first place as I didn't think my other thread would be so popular
You don't have to track anything additional,
I am just asking that everyone also post their seek times & access times,
I will be more than happy to put it in Excell or even Access.

Many Thanks,
Dave
