Arrow Working List Of Programs That Acutally Use All 4/8 Cores

Hey everyone, the question is always asked....what programs actually utilize a quad core processor. Well it's time to answer it! I'd like to ask a favor of you all, as you are working on things, wether it is a audio or video conversion, a 3D rendering, working with game engines, editing photos, or even gaming, I would like you to let me/us know if it is using all 4/8 cores all at 100% (see the attach photo), is it using the quad core to the fullest this does not need to include stability programs or anything like that, just actual real world programs that we all use You can check how much it's using by using the Task Manager, or the way I do it is to have Everest running in my windows side bar on my second display. Anyway, please let me know what you find because I think it would be neat for new people who are considering quads to have a list that was made by people who actually use the software, and not by some company who claims it will use them.

I'll start the list and I'll add others as you all post:
  • Autodesk 3D Studio Max 2009
  • Autodesk 3D Studio Maya 2009
  • Unreal Editor For Unreal Tournament 3
  • SMP F@H
  • 3D rendering on Cinema 4D
  • Sony Vegas Pro 8.1
  • Adobe CS4 Master Collection
  • Cinema 4D 64 bit
  • Mudbox 2009 /2008 64bit
  • Autodesk AutoCAD R 2010
  • DVDShrink
  • Ripbot264
  • Nero Recode

Folding At Home smp client Especially the linux/osx variant when running a2 core wu's, they will scale to what ever number of cores present.

Some, but even they don't saturate a quad usually.

F@H SMP scales to four, and it and Linux/OSX aren't games.

- Adobe CS4 Master Collection application, After-Effects CS4 uses multicore and allows you to specify the number of cores to use.
- Cinema 4D 64 bit edition also uses multicore
- Mudbox 2009 /2008 64bit
Hey how about our good old friend Prime95? LOL j/k but you will mostly find design applications are the first to fully utilize pure cpu power and will use all available cores and majority of all 64 bit applications use all cores, but wont utilize those cores unless they really need to process a high capacity of information.

yes when rendering in C4D it will use all ur core and you can visually see it, each moving scanline in the render window represents each cpu core (pretty neat) you can give it a shot just download Cinebench for free from Maxons site. After Affects CS4 also support multiproccessing for rendering or RAM previewing, you can also test the performance by chosing how many cores you want to use and how much ram is allocated for each core.

- 3D rendering on Cinema 4D
- Sony Vegas Pro 8.1 when rendering HD videos with FX like color correction.

Those are the only two I've seen using 4 cores/8 threads at 100%.

Crysis does use all 4 cores but it does not max out all 4 cores to 100%

Close to 100%, but not always. I think it is limited by the bandwidth from the hard drive.
