Acer AspireRevo - The first ION-based PC

Interesting, so nVidia finally started developing products on their ION platform. I would be interested in the price tag on these micro-computers tho

Not as I know (but I haven't searched much). I went to download nVidia's latest drivers to test my download speed (having problems with ISP) and saw this on the front page and thought it was interesting.

This one's actually a desktop computer and not a laptop, which makes it more interesting for HTPC directly off a HDTV or something like that.

actually from what I've read there are no current plans for mobile versions of this platform due to power consumption.

Right. The Asus N10 uses a 9300M graphics chip, whereas the Ion platform has a 9400 built in.

The 9400m chip is a surprisingly capable chip. Most of Apple products are sold with it (MacBook, MacBook Pro, some iMac). They could game CoD4 on low settings at a decent resolution without too much problems.

its the same as a 8400gs downclocked and rebadged if your wondering what it is. the 9400 does perform very well actually, on a macbook, its amazing how much graphics stuff you can squeeze out of it. all of the valve games are playable, half life and hl2 and the games that use their engine can run at full settings on 1280x800 without any AA at 30+fps. cant do that with an intel gma unfortunately. surprisingly nvidia is still making $$ off these age old technology. they should move to like 32nm scale and completely redesign a chip like intel did with atom so they would have a chance at the netbook segment.

the advertising is somewhat true, and somewhat not. for ex: purevideo is only supported by software like cyberlink dvd and windows media player for certain codecs. codecs outside of those will still run laggy on hd contents. the cod4 is probably running at low settings like the above with no aa and on a small res like 1280x800 or something cause that card isnt that powerful. macbook can run it with medium settings with 20-30fps on 1280x800 which is somewhat playable. and its probably more energy efficient to let the cpu decode video vs graphics, dunno why would want gpu to decode when cpu is perfectly fine at decoding dvd res videos.

That has a discrete 9300M. There's a little switch that allows you to switch from 9300M to 945G to save battery or have performance.

I guess it'll eventually show up on other models. The chipset has to offer that function too, and Im not sure if the 9400m can do it.

untrueparado said it, and they want the GPU to help with the decoding because the CPU takes quite a hit doing all the work by itself. Test prove it - using the GPU takes a lot of load off the CPU so you can either multitask, or having less lag watching a video. It also produces less heat.
