Well, I am not an expert but a node is the connection point of a transistor.
Now you can imagine a transistor with a 22 nm (or 28nm) wide with. It is through there that the electricity flow. That is why volts are so small in a CPU. A ground "wire" and a powered "wire" are so small that it can happen electron migration (short circuit). that is what commonly happen when you overclock too much.

This is what I can explain...

well, one processor have millions of transistors, so I guess it connects each other in a circuit of some layers. It is because of the process size that a processor die can be so small, even with such vast and complex circuitry on it.
