ASUS Maximus II GENE???

So I was thinking about putting together a LAN-box, and someone recommended this board. I have found multiple reviews but I have yet to see any details on how to purchase this board. Is it out? Was production stopped? It's not even listed on ASUS's website. Was it all just a figment of my imagination? Am I going crazy? Can anybody help?

Yes, it does exist and it is listed on the asus site, here: http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=o9cMT9ZnTj9ujsZ9

It's quite a good board.

That's also the closest thing I could find as well, which is why I posed the question in the first place. Where in the heck can a person buy this board?! Just to clarify, we are looking for the ASUS Maximus II GENE u-ATX p45 motherboard. It's a pain to not be able to locate this thing, as all the reviews I have read indicate this is a great board for the LAN box!

It seems like that may be the only one in existence! Now to find some way to get it from the UK to the USA!

I don't know that I'm exactly dead-set, as I can be persuaded really easily. But originally I was looking at a DFI Lanparty board, and someone recommended the ASUS to me, so I ran with it.

I read 5 or 6 different reviews on the board and everywhere gave it a good review. I'm not inclined as to what manufacturers make the best m/u-ATX boards, so I came here looking for advice a while back.

It seems that the GENE has everything you could want in a regular ATX board. Plenty of SATA connectors, plenty of USB ports, 2x PCI-E 2.0x16 for if I decide to crossfire later. Another factor for me is the relatively easy BIOS to get around in.

I'm not locked in to this, but I'm about as close as you can get. I plan on putting my recently acquired QX9650 in there, pairing it with some 1066 RAM (not sure which yet) and throwing a 4890 or 4890x2 in there. It's also going to be a project though, because after getting everything into the lanbox, I plan to attempt to water cool it. I'm not sure yet, because well, I have to see what kind of space I'm looking at.

So, AT, if you have any recommendations of other boards or anything in particular that you think is needed in a decent lan build, feel free to guide me!

You will head to MicroCenter and buy an i7 920 and ASUS Rampage II GENE

There is this highly questionable store: http://www.qbitonline.com/product_in...175&language=1

The Rampage was released internationally a month or two before the States, so it may take some time for it to hit the US. Board was in the rumor mill for about 4 months.

But but but I just bought a barely used QX9650! How could I upgrade so soon after that?!

Maybe I can't be persuaded THAT easily, but it was a good try. I know the i7 is the better route, but I got my feet wet in overclocking with Kentsfield and I want to stay here until I feel comfortable enough to move on.

On another note, has anybody ordered from this Qbit online? I'm going to see if I can find some kind of reviews for the site and maybe I will order from there.

Sell QX9650
Buy 920 D0 for half the price
Use remaining money to buy water cooling
Overclock that 920 way higher then the QX9650 would go
Be happy

i7 is easier to clock then 775 imo. 4Ghz is bootable first try and stable with 1.35Vcore, 1.3VTT and auto everthing else for everyone Ive seen.

While I've always appreciated the advice you have on these forums Cecil (I've been lurking for almost 2 years!), I want to build this lan-box on the 775/p45 chipset. I know it's not the wisest thing from a technology point of view, but that's my comfort zone right now.

But if anybody has recommendations on m-ATX mobos for 775, please don't hesitate to provide me with more options!

And again, anyone know about qbit online? They use paypal as a checkout service, so I think I'd feel safe ordering from them, what about ya'll?

Also, since this is now in the SFF board, what cases do you think would be good for a lan machine? I have been looking at the TT Lan-Box Lite, I think it would do really nicely. But I'm not sure on GPUs fitting in there. Just how big is the 4890? Bigger than the 8800GT? Is there a better case that would allow me to throw maybe a 285 in there if I'm feeling froggy and want that instead of the 4890?
