Exclamation Have i maxed out my PSU

Gday, i just bought a Q9550 (I use to have a e7300) and have just made it Prime stable. It has been running really good in games and what not, I went to do a 3dmark03 test to see if the score has gone up much and half way through one of the tests the computer just turned it self off. I'm thinking when both of the videos card are at %100 as well as the CPU, maybe the PSU cant feed enough power anymore. Usually if the CPU was unstable it would hardlock and freeze up, but the computer just turned off. What do you guys think?

Cheers

600w should run that, but not oc'd to the max. I think you're spot on, try a beefier psu.

Shutdown = over current protection ( measuring more current draw, spike or not, then it can handle ).

To provide plenty of headroom for OC'ing, I recommend a Corsair 850W, as you want to load the PSU in the 40% to 60% range, never exceeding 70% for continuous operation.

i agree with dave. also because from what i know, crossfire takes a lot of watts...i think. but i think you may need more than 600

My system (see sig) under a gaming load fully overclocked will hit 600W at times, so you better believe you need more wattage

Based on your other PSU posts and suggestions, I'd say you should just keep out of it.

if u run ur system stock, that psu should be no problem at all. overclocking and/or overvolting will cause components to use more power than it should, usually exponentially. so, like the others said, get a better psu. corsair is great, and there was a deal yesterday from newegg where all of them were on sale and that 850w one was only like $100. it should last u a long while, possibly 5-10 years if u buy a quality psu. corsair, pc p&c, tagan, xclio, and some other ones make great single railed psu. make sure u get a single railed.

and bryan, it depends. whats the system, cpu, and bridge temps? if u oc too hard and the cpu exceeds 70-80c, most mobos have automatic shutdown to prevent frying the chip.
