Solution to video cards covering up slots?

I was just wondering if anyone knows of a practical way to work around the fact that many double slot video cards cover up potentially useful pci-e x4 slots and normal pci slots?

I was thinking after considering my ATI Crossfire Ribbon Connectors, that it should be feasible to have some sort of ribbon connecter going directly to the slot that is long enough to relocate additional cards elsewhere.

I'm not sure. Find a replacement cooler, which will make the card take up 1 slot.

Some people have solved the problem with right-angled connector on the sata cable, but it depends on how badly covered and how low the graphics card sits.

Radeon HD 4870's, Vapor-X models, so I wouldn't want to replace the coolers. Ah well, them's the breaks. My next mobo will be sure to have a well thought out layout.

Thanks for the responses anyway!

There are pcie x16 extenders which will allow moving the card, but you won't be able to place it anywhere in your case where it could be mounted normally.

It's not just the mobo, it's the case as well. Loose the case, or get out the dremel, and you can do something with for instance..

The other way, is to buy a motherboard with the sata connectors situated better, difficult when running two cards though.
