How is the quality of OCZ recertified PSUs? $30-$50 for 600-850w

How is the quality of OCZ recertified PSUs?

SVC.com is having a killer sale of some of them.

OCZ OCZ850GXSSLI GameXStream 850W SLI ATX12V 2.2 Power Supply - Recertified -$49.99
http://www.svc.com/ocz850gxssli-b.html

OCZ OCZ700GXSSLI GameXStream 700W SLI ATX12V 2.2 Power Supply - Recertified - $39.99
http://www.svc.com/ocz700gxssli-b.html

OCZ OCZ600GXSSLI GameXStream 600W SLI ATX12V 2.2 Power Supply - Recertified - $29.99
http://www.svc.com/ocz600gxssli-b.html

I didn't want to post it in the hot deals section until I knew the quality would be decent. Anyone ever had one of these?
They appear to carry a 1year warranty. I was looking at one of these for friend since he's using a 350W generic that came w/the case.

Dave would you care to comment? Are these the good OCZ's or the lower quality OCZ's?

I have a OCZ GameXStream 700W although it is currently, not hooked up since I'm using my Silverstone DA1200. It worked fine. I think it would be better than a 350W generic. I'm keeping it for backup for both my overclocked systems.

I actually never had any issues with mine even running a 3.6 Q6600 with an overclocked 8800GTS512 G92. Curiously enough, my Silverstone did fail once.

I as well have a GameXtreme 700w. It has served me well and is going to power my i7 rig (just need a 920!)

IIRC, the GameXtremes are on the 'good' OCZ PSU list.

Don't ask why unless you want to join them.
i've used ocz psu's but i would be leery pushing them close to their limits especially if re-certified but should be a great deal for non extreme oc'ers

I'll let you all know the deal you missed out on

Which one are you getting?

It's hard to buy the 850 for $50 refurb when there is a 780W ModXStream for $60 brand new. http://www.svc.com/ocz780mxs.html

Yeah, I got the $30 guy. Just picking up as a spare.

Additional Comment:

Be sure to add $8.38 for UPS ground. That was my cheapest option.

I noticed the prices the other day while researching for a cheap PSU for another EOC member, however I could not find out WHO re-certified them!

As shipped these were "above average, better than middle of the road" PSU's.

I ordered one, I will let you know if there is any indication of who re-certified them in the packaging. And of course, if it's a dud.

I have never seen anything on the OCZ website about recertified products, but who knows!

Yes, please do as much of a review as possible, as really the only thing that generally goes bad in "good" PSU's are the capacitors,
so if it has been completely re-caped & passed a Sun-Moon test, it should be "just about" as good as new.

Let's hope so, it was pretty cheap and should at least be a good tester/backup for me. I'm open to abusing it for "review" purposes but not really sure how to do a good testing of a PSU. I do have a DMM.

If it doesn't void the warranty & you feel comfortable doing it,
a few pics of the inside so we can see "up close" the caps would be great.

However safety is #1 as the caps can hold a deadly charge for a very, very long time!

If they re-caped it, I will believe "recertified" if not, you just bought what someone sent back to OCZ for repair or replacement.

Hmm, will probably test it really good first before I do anything to void the warranty. Then I wouldn't have a problem with opening it up.

Is that place a reputable seller?

SVC is a good seller, usually for WC & modding supplies.

I see OCZ sells their own recertified stuff with original mfg. warranty of 3 years, but these ones on SVC only have a 1 year warranty.

That is why I bring it up. Why don't these have the same warranty? Still, OCZ recertified prices seem to be fair for what you are getting.

Additional Comment:

Those are a good deal because they are recertified by OCZ and have the 3 year warranty.

I'm not seeing any of them on the OCZ link that have a three year warranty except the modxstream one..

My guess is SVC bought a bunch of them at a discounted price from OCZ and is selling them off.
