Ram Stick Question

To put things to perspective, there exists a 1GB, 2GB and 4GB stick of ram correct? Im wondering why most people use use 2 sticks of 2GB rams instead of placing 2 sticks of 4GB ram or 1 Stick of 4GB ram? Is there a difference in performance? Please enlighten me thanks!

Depends on whether or not you're using a dual or triple channel memory controller. To take advantage of either, you must use 2 or 3 sticks. Yes, the are 1, 2, and 4GB sticks, but some mobos can't handle the 4GB sticks.
