Taking out video card

I have a Compaq SR1920nx with XP fully updated. It has a video card installed in it and I want to give the card who plays pc games. I need to know if I have to enable the onboard video + sound before taking it out or is that something xp will recognize and take care of?

Thnks

That setting is probably going to be in your BIOS usually under something like " Advanced Options " or " Chipset Options. " Most Asus boards are set up to detect both unless they were changed when the video card was installed. Your splash screen will tell you which key you need to press to enter the BIOS. Asus uses the Delete key but Compaq might have re-assigned it to F2.

Make sure Internal Graphics Mode is Enabled and set to whatever the highest memory configuration is.
Initiate Graphics Adapter should be set to IGD or IGP then PEG. Your choice might look like [IGD/PEG] and that will look for the internal graphics first before going to the video card. If all this is set up correctly, you SHOULD be able to test it without having to remove the video card by powering down, connecting a monitor to the motherboard video port, dis-connecting any monitors hooked up to the video card, and fire it back up.

The audio is on-board already and isn't part of the video card.

Ok, I switched it back and I have it running with onboard. I only have 1 glitch, My desktop is HUGE. It has huge icons, the start menu and taskbar are missing and about 1/3 of my desktop is offscreen. Any ideas?

PS thanks for getting me through the first part

You probably need to change the resolution. To do this, right click on the desktop and select properties, then click on the settings tab.

You might need to adjust the monitor itself.

Download this for your drivers and run the exe and it should fix your problem. Drivers are required for smooth operation even to browse the web.

Make sure to uninstall old drivers if possible using driversweeper or drivercleaner pro
