Unhappy AMD Phenom II X4 965 paired with JETWAY HA04 790FX

I just swopted out my FX62 with AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor on to my Jetway HA04. Looking at the mobo web site it says it supports the chip but I am having soooo many issuses. Going through the bios was a nightmare. I can handle basic bios settings but going it the PERFORMANCE OVERCLOCKING section was HOLY S*** to put it nicely.

CHIP LINK: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103727

MOBO LINK: http://www.jetway.com.tw/jw/motherbo...6&proname=HA04

SYSTEM 1- MEDIA EDITTING:

mobo: jetway ha04 790fx/sb600
chip: amd phenom 2 x4 965 (artic silver5)
cpu cooling: zalman cnps97 110mm (with speed controler)
mem:GeIL Black Dragon 4GB (4 x 1GB) DDR2 1066
video: nvidea 1gig gforce 9500gt (fanless)
video cooling: dual 80mm pci fan
o.s. hd: WD VelociRaptor WD1500HLFS 150GB (win xp pro 32bit)
storage: WD Caviar Black WD2001FASS 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB
8 optical dives (various needs)
psu: xion realpower 1100w
encour video capture device
audigy sound blaster
card readeer
blutooth dongle
4- 120mm fans & 2 80mm fans (in)
6- 80mm fans (out)

My problems are: At first my pc only saw the chip at 800mhz, then it saw it at 2.35ghz but all the while it also says AMD PROCESSOR MODLE UNKNOWN.
but when I use Everest ultimate edition it shows the cpu and its specs.
I tryed to update the bios but baised on thier directions for floppy use the flash application and the bin file together are to large for the floppy drive, cant update bios (from what I've tryed). My memmory is at 533.3mhz @5-7-7-20. For now I just want to get the system running at its stock 3.4ghz/ 1066 @5-5-5-15.
My system temps are great from what I went from:

fx62------------------ phenom quad
idle cpu: 55c ----------32c
full load: 66c-- TO----- 42c
gpu: 54c --------------36c
mobo:68c -------------41c

I dont know if I needed to add more info and please ANY and ALL help would be greatly appriciated...
Thank you

Do you have the ability to put the Chip in another AM3 board? Or another AM3 chip in the board to test and see which may be the culprit?

I've got my money on the board.

Go into Advanced->Chipset and find ACC advanced Core Calibration I think (?) and make sure the mobo is set to ALL CORES.

Otherwise I've never experienced anything like that before.

Additional Comment:

Is CPU-Z showing you running with all Cores unlocked?

Your rig is running fine thats just coolnquiet downclocking based on use.
Run something like cinebench or something that puts a full load on all cores and watch your clocks go to 3.4ghz.

FYI its not 850x4cores=3.4ghz each core will run 3.4ghz on full load.

You can disable coolnquiet in bios and it will stay at 3.4ghz but you'll see no difference in speed with it on or off.
If your not ocing its best to leave it on and enjoy your low temps

My mobo came with an application that did that besides CnQ. So I wasn't aware is actually down clocked it so much.

Additional Comment:

Dunno what happened to my logic on that last little bit...sometimes I get going...

http://www.jetway.com.tw/jw/motherbo...6&proname=HA04 and look at the cpu support link.

everest of course will recognize the cpu because it knows what it is, but your BIOS doesn't and would need a flash, only it appears there isn't one. so far as i can find, anyways.
sorry but i am not seeing the 965 on the cpu support list.

Slave on dope; I turned off cool n quiet my system now shows it at 800mhz, same as when I used the FX62 chip...

Moosteve; you are 100% corecct my 965 3.4 chip is NOT on the supported list, me rushing...

tryed to update bios but I have to use a floppy and when I put the flash app then try to put on the new bios the disc has no space...
AWDFLASH is 60k and the Bios is 1024k ... do you know of anyother way I can flash my bios...
I might just get another board that is ready for my chip without having to update the bios (hopefully)

Additional Comment:

maximus I was looking at that exact board... are you happy with it? I'm not an overclocking guru, so could I put in my chip and go or do I have mess around ALOT in bios? I know computing is a lot of tinkering but sometimes I want pull out what hair I got left...

Additional Comment:

what do you guys/gals think about pairinng my phenom 2 x4 3.4 with this board?

That's a DDR3 motherboard. You'd need to buy DDR3 ram to make it work.

I'd recommend you buy GA-MA790X-UD4P -- the one I have. It's a DDR2 board, and is the best overclocking motherboard for AM2/AM2+ and accepts AM3 processors too.

The EGG dont have any available "out of stock"

As for the mem I'm ok with having to get ddr3, I can always use the ddr2s on other boards/builds I have. Thinking on getting these.

Are you going to overclock? That board is good, yes, but it won't be all that great for overclocking.

That motherboard does unlock, yes. But there is no guarantee that the unlocked cores will be perfectly stable.

just for your info, i have the MSI board you posted and its been rock solid and a good overclocker. i also built a friend's rig using the MSI max posted, and i agree with him. a very decent board for the $$$.

Mr Paco,
I don;t know which board yo got. D get the ASUS M4N78 Pro? If not give some serious thought to the GA MA790XTUD4p. This is a great board and has a very diverse BIOS. I have a 955 BB and Kingston KHX 1333. With a 5850 I hit 17000+ on 3DMark06 with very mild OCing. This board has a software feature called EasyTune that allows for auto OCing from the OS, or you can go into the BIOS and play. Also it has a secoond BIOS chip that can reboot the machine in case you kill hte first or primary BIOS.
In any case good luck wiht your system.
