This is what Dave is referring to. So yes, Peanut butter works. Jam, not so much.

A few years ago I remember there was an article online that had shown how "odd" tim's performed. I cannot find it, nor can I remember where. I just mounted my Ven X, with IC7 and, I have seen a 10C drop in temps, that's right 10C.

Despite the silly claims people have posted online, IC Diamond 7 simply performs on par with the other leading thermal interface materials. You would get nearly identical results with a proper application of Arctic Cooling MX-3, Tuniq TX-3, Arctic Silver 5, OCZ Freeze, or one of the Shin-Etsu MicroSi compounds.

I just replaced my Zalman with a Ven X with a pair of Scythe 1900 's. I have a 10C drop in temps. I'm using IC7, but my temps drops can almost certainly be accounted for by the new hsf.

The primary advantages of Ceramique are its non-conductive / non-capacitive formula combined with long term stability. If you really want to have some fun I suggest that you test some copper anti seize paste.

copper antiseize hum....

Not a bad idea Anyone ever tried it ? (I can test it if people are interested)

Okay sorry for the late reply but it was shipped from hongkong and was free of shipping cost so you can Imagen the time it takes to get to my place. The silicone based thermal paste doesn't seem to dry out and is quit sticky, it is really watery and I think it might flow over and cause a short circuit so ill test on a cpu before I do

I did my own personal testing, and with the same aplication, cpu, and cooling, there shouldnt be more then 1-2C at MOST difference between 95% of the TIMs out there, and most are exactly the same.

Best way to pick is how much you get for the money, and how easy it is to work with. I like Gelid GC2 now because it comes with a spreading tool, you get 7 grams instead of 3-4 like most others, is very easy to work with, and has the EXACT same results as TX-2.

Don't ask why unless you want to join them.
If I have to see another thread that goes on the subject of using toothpaste/peanut-butter/ or any other house hold items I think I am going to jump out of a 5 story window.

Common sense should be telling you that it is ridiculous and should be avoided, curiosity will say that it may work, common sense should kick back in and say that it wont work for long if at all and will make a mess.

On Topic
It should be no secret that the difference between high and low end TIMs is really not that great. I noticed little difference between AS5 and some cheap chinese stuff I picked up. 1-2c at best.

And since the spreading method has just about been disproved, who cares how easy it is to work with.

I have used my toothpaste as a TIM. It was surprisingly effective (though cleanup was a *****). So Jack, may I lead you to my 26th story house? It has french windows, so you can just step out whenever you wish.

Please, lead the way.

I have also used Toothpaste as a TIM, however after a while it becomes completely ineffective and cleanup is a b1tch.

So, please, where is this lovely window of yours?

Right here. This is the view out of my window. I even put a welcoming mat in front of the window for your convenience.

Always there in my time of need for support De, you're the bestest.

And by that I mean, always the little devil in my ear leading me to a 26 story window, and the hands in my back to make sure I don't back out.
