P5N72-T PREMIUM overheating with 3-way SLI
I have plenty of power and cooling. I run two 9600 GTs all day with out any heat problems at all. What could cause such fast heat ups, I mean it starts getting hot just sitting at idle, about 10-12 degrees. Buck flatbush71 |

i think its being caused by the extra stress or throughput on the northbridge. i have an m3n-ht which uses the 780a northbridge and my nb temp has always been high since new, when i first got it it would hover about 50c and climb when gaming. i got a 2nd card and ran sli and saw temps upto 74c, my boards still runs fine as i have no issues with my computer unless its a video card issue like drivers. i since have gotten a new case so im unaware of current temps, im downloading everest now.
just checked my mcp temp and it still sits at about 50c or more so i believe you shouldnt have any issues however, install the 3rd card, open your program to check your mcp temp and play a game see how hot it does get. |

I'm scared that I might burn it it up. I got the CPU O/C-ed to 3.4 and FSB to 1600. What would be the top limit in temp ? I've got the Asus AI Suite for temp monitoring.

i couldnt find any upper limit specs for temp on the nb so i would say if it goes over 75 stop. you "could" try removing your nb and applying some AS5 then get some screws and nuts like i did and bolt the nb down for more pressure, my nb was held on by plastic push pins before, temps had dropped abit but i think there may be an air pocket in mine because i picked it up via the NB sink to remove and install the mobo when i needed to.

Well, now I'm starting to wonder if I'm losing my mind. All the crazy temps came from the Nvidia System Monitor. I got AI Asus Monitor tonight, then put the card back in to test and post the temps. Asus said after about two hours of Borderlands (maxed) 42 cpu, 44 system.
![]() Sorry to bother you guys. I am very old and do get easy confused. Buck

That there is a high NB temperature... Get a fan to direct air over the NB heatsink. If that doesn't work, try reapplying thermal paste.

What kind of cards are you running? All 9600GTs? I suppose they blow their hot air in the case and not outside. That does not help at all. Try improving airflow through the case (a pic of your case would also help).

It looks like to me, when the 3rd card, is in, center, its right over the top of the heat sink. There's no way to put a fan on it. Unless I put one on the side blowing directly on the cards and board.
Additional Comment: With only 2 cards in. ![]() I got to take a old Navy buddy to town, dang it. I'll be back on later. Buck Edit #2: I talked to a wheel at Nvidai, and he said mid or low 80s will do, less is better, but it will do. I'm going to put the 120mm on the side any way. Thank you everyone. buck flatbush71 Last edited by flatbush71 : 10-14-2010 at 01:30 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

**** thats hot! imo you should remove the heatsink on the nb and put new paste on it aswell as adding a fan to the side of the vid cards, or atleast thats where i would put it. 82c is pretty much the limit from what the wheel guy says. when you start loading the gpu's the mcp is going to skyrocket.
