Wink Enough power to run 5870's in crossfire?

Gday peoples

Just got a new power supply and a gigabyte 5870, Loving BF BC2 now, graphics are sooo good with dx11. I'm thinking about getting another gigabyte 5870 and was wondering if the Corsair HX 750 is enough to power the system?

Cheers

You'll be cutting it close, if you go xfire. Are you gaming at a resolution greater than 1900 x 1080, or are you using a multi monitor setup? If not, you may only need one 5870.

ok cool, it says my system will use 653w under peak load. Should the PSU cope ok, or would it run quite hot and loud?

im gaming at 1900x1080 and the 1 monitor, I just would like to max any game at that res, i doubt the 1 5870 would be able to do that.

from what I understand the more headroom you leave on the PSU, the longer the life expectancy will be. A corsair should deliver the rated wattage so you would probably be ok.

When I bought my last psu (upgrade from 500w) I got the 950w version cause with the rebate it was about the same as the 850, and I did not want to have to buy another psu for a long time.

my 5770 handles on 1080p monitor on max settings on bc2 with 35-38 FPS (except in smoke or an explosion, that really F's with the fps) so a single 5870 would be fine.

only reason to xfire a 5870 is to game in eyefinity.

if its not enough power, good news is a corsair should not take the rest of your system down with it.

As long as you aren't anal about pushing OCs to the max, that PSU will certainly keep doing you fine. If you're a diehard bencher... well, you'll have to test if the increased load adds enough noise to your power rails that it effects your OCs.
