PSU recommendation

Would anyone be able to recommend a PSU to me to suit the rig listed in my signature plus the next items;

Upgrade to 6870/gtx470/gtx560 Ti or similar mid-upper spec graphics card.
Upgrade to a phenom ii x4 955/970 at around 125w

My current 580w PSU is of uncertain credibility and while it handles my current situation well enough, I don't trust it in the long term, especially with more power hungry upgrades.

PSU recommendations must be reasonable, I'm a student and not made of money. I was thinking in the ball park of less than $120 AUD if possible.

Give model name/numbers if you can so I can try to find a good deal online. Thanks everyone!

Check the Antec Neo Eco line or Corsair's lineup, for those parts I would recommend a 600-650W unit.

What website will you be shopping at? Or what brands are available locally?

Corsair , Antec, Silverstone, XFX and Seasonic are a couple of the popular quality brands in our country.

Look for ATX v2.91 ratings and 80+ Silver or Gold Ratings and you usually can't go wrong.

There are a number of ATX v2.2 and v2.3 power supplies that are still very good also. Keep in mind that most of the good power supplies are at least 80+ efficiency these days, but some of the lower end ones can't meet the Silver or Gold rating which makes it a little easier to find a quality unit in the silver+ rating.

Check out this link for some more info on the matter.

The site I've found the best prices on is www.pccasegear.com , they are an Australian online store. Someone linked them in a thread on these forums and I've been interested to give them a go since.

I'm currently checking out their graphics cards, it's down to a gtx 560 Ti factory overclocked or a hd 6870 overclocked, I'm traditionally an ATI/AMD user, but I may make the jump, reviews seem to lean slightly towards to 560 Ti, plus given that my CPU is a bit of a bottleneck, taking physics calculations away from it with PhysX in some titles is a bonus.

Would both of these cards still be ok on a 600w or so PSU?

Antec, Coolermaster, Corasair any brand you can get in the US pretty much we can get here. Most are made in Asia afterall, and we are more a part of SE Asia geographically than we are any other place.

Any of these?

They all sit around my price range and are MUCH better price wise than my local PC stores.

This is what you want in the less than $120 mark.

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?...ducts_id=10870

It will easily handle either the GTX 560 or ATI card you want + a quad core with overclocks on both.

This is a newer power supply than the Corsair, also another recommendation for your hardware.

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?...ducts_id=15773

The Corsair has 60 amps, the XFX 52 amps on the 12 volt rail, the XFX is newer ATX design, but both are good for what you want.

I can not recommend Coolermaster power supplies based on their previous lemons they had. The Antecs are okay but still i like the other two i recommended better.

That is fantastic advice, thank you so much. I think it will be down to one of these two for sure when it comes to the crunch. Just got to get some stuff on ebay I'm trying to offload and from there I'll be in the game. Hopefully get the new PSU and GPU by the end of next week.

Huh? The XFX has 53 and Corsair has 52.

As for his options, the XFX and Corsair units posted are the best for $120. The XFX is the better unit if you were wondering.

Either could handle 6870 crossfire(the Corsair only has 2 x 6pin PCIE connections, you'd have to use molex adapters), as well as GTX 560 SLI(AMD board, sort of irrelevant).

Your right, i read those tiny numbers in the picture wrong

Knowing that there is no reason to pass up the XFX when comparing it to the Corsair TX-650
