vlc doesnt look right
Any Ideas whats going on? Its really distracting since i'm a video/audiophile. Also any ideas how to clean up 'snow' in the picture. or is that just part of the upconversion process. The fix ended up being I needed to turn on the deinterlace. But I would suggest just using wmp for dvd playback. Last edited by pm4k : 05-13-2011 at 08:43 AM. Reason: adding fix |

Perhaps the device you are playing the dvd from is outputing a frequency your tv does not like. but you mentioned it does it while using other devices? I would suspect the usual...loose cables, tv settings, or the quality of the dvds whether new or downloded.

the dvds are brand new and I'm using an hdmi to the 42" and dvi to the monitor. No lose wires.
I did a little more digging after I posted and I think I found out what was wrong. Keep going with suggestions. Lets see if anyone can figure it out. If not I can just post what was wrong so it will help out others. But I like the game idea better. I'm sure there are some egos around here that need a good stroke. |

Try using WMP, see if the quality is better. I noticed that VLC does not always look better than others, it seems to need some visual tweaking when playing DVDs.

Its in the video settings, where you can adjust the picture settings. I never really messed up with it since WMP works surprisingly well for DVDs. The blacks are black and that's what I want. lol

hmmm I no longer have control over the volume from my computer. I have to adjust the receiver. HDMI into tv and optical out TV into receiver.

I've had good success enabling all the directx acceleration options with VLC when using it for TV output. For plain DVD playback media center does the trick.
