Question Overclocking 1090T help

Hey,

So I'm new to this site and overclocking and not sure if this is the correct spot for putting this here but I'm not sure where to post this.

I'm interested in overclocking my AMD 1090T 3.2ghz to 4ghz/4.2ghz and just wondering a few things.

Which CPU fan should I buy? I have a stock fan and don't wanna use liquid.
Please use this site to refer to a fan http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?cPath=8_129

In terms of voltage and other BIOS related things how would I go about puting in the correct numbers?

Is it worth overclocking with my current setup to be able to play future games such as Battlefield 3?

Specifications:

ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3
RADEON HD 5700 1GB (might upgrade to 6950 soon)
AMD Hexa core 1090T 3.2ghz (stock fans)
700w Corsair stealth2 (power supply)
Corsair Vengeance series 4gb 1600mhz
Hitachi 500gb HDD

ALL stock fans so I'm open to suggestions I'm trying to keep it under $125 for everything.

I have this one on my 2600k SB. http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=027624 and I have the Xigmatek dark knight on my X6 1100T. But Im sure just about anything would be better than stock. Also wait till moosteve gets on here, he will be able to help you out alot with the overclock.

Additional Comment:

Also Just be sure to monitor you temps with Coretemp or HWMonitor or something of that sort. I have the 1100t and am pretty much stuck at 4.1 max and 4.0 24/7

Additional Comment:

Nice setup BTW!

Additional Comment:

And welcome sorry about so many additional posts lol

Additional Comment:

Also this might help if you wanna read through this till moosteeve or someone else helps you http://forums.extremeoverclocking.co...ighlight=1100t

when you say no water, do you mean not custom water, or not interested in the h60 or h70?

you cant just plug #'s in your bios, you have to over-clock progressively tuning as you go along as every cpu/mobo is different.

after you get your cooling sorted out, you have an unlocked mulitplier, you can proably get 90% of your overclock by just increasing your cpu mulitplier, and when it gets unstable increase your vcore. you can fine tune the FSB at the end to squeeze out a bit more performance.

Thanks for quick replies.

As I said I'm new to this so I'm just trying to understand everything. When I talk about Liquid cooling I'm talking about h60 and h70 yes. I rather keep it entirely done with fans instead so it won't get anymore complicated.

I will check out the multiplier and see how that goes, thanks.

ill just throw in my 2c for the H70. it gives as much if not more cooling as high end air, in a much smaller package, that gets the rad off the mobo, and onto a 120mm fan hole on your case.

if you want high end air cooling the noctura d14 is a good one and a couple others, for budget air look at hyper 212+, it cools as well as others that are $20 more.

ive used both the h70 and the 212, h70 blows the 212 away.

Well, for the h70 is it expensive and hard to setup? can you explain how it works in terms of keep it cool?

+2 on cooling. It's a must have for best results.

Air or liquid cooling, there's still maintenance.

Alright, I'll get the h70 its 79.99 at my local computer shop and its not to hard to setup from that looks of the youtube videos etc..

So once I get that installed I'll update this post.

But one last question which I shouldn't of left out.

One day I was cleaning the fan and I accidentally forgot to heat up the gel and I pulled it out and bent about 7 pins. I got a tiny little pocket knife and safetly put them back without a single one breaking and they all fit back snug into the socket. Would this cause a problem with the over clocking? (I havent had any issues with performance after I bent them back FYI)

Now, I'm just wondering about the thermal gel I will put on. Should I take the stock thermal gel and wipe it off then put the h70 with its stock gel on it and just put it on the freshly wiped CPU?

The cpu pins will be fine and should not effect an over clock.

I think the new hype is MX5 thermal paste? Arctic Silver has done well for me through the years, and I use Ceramic for extreme cooling cause it's so cheap and I use a lot.

Oh and twist the HSF off, don't pull it straight up. You shouldn't need to heat the paste unless you used a thermal Glue, which I do not recommend you use.

Use New thermal paste every re-seat.

h70 is a slef contained water unit, not as good as custom water (it has as smaller radiator) but pretty much as good if not better than those gigantic air coolers.

so you screw in the correct back plate (you have to do this for almost all aftermarket coolers) install the mobo, install the rad on an availible fan slot, (you really need a minimum of three fan ports, one for intake, one for the H70 and one for exaust. you then install the cpu block which has a selfcontained water pump built on. plug all in and wola!!! "light water"

probably easier to install than a giant air cooler that will block things on your mobo.

at any rate dont change the tim out on an H70(like I did), its a very high quality one (found out after the fact), of course if you install it a second time you will need new tim.

What is this high quality tim? Does it have a name?

Something with a 120.2 rad would be ideal cooling. A single 120 rad may not be adequate.

shin-etsu (spelling?)

I think the h 80-100 is going to have a bigger rad, but at some point price is going to be pushing custom water.

H70 is a good cooler for $79.

my H70 with two fans will keep my i5 with 1.4v with heavy overclock under 70c load. I imagine its going to be hard to cool a phenom x6 significantly better for $80
